    I completely agree

Thanks for the suggestions, Im thinking polenta at the moment. Hes really funny with food, his parents are the same (but worse!!!) They cringe at the very idea and start coming out with all these wierd and wonderful excuses. I even had once that they were allergic to them despite the fact they have never even tried!!! I have tried him on swede and potato mash (as a kind of compromise) and he said it wasnt bad but didnt want to eat it He will eat carrots and peas so will try something with that. I will keep persisting lol! I will get more veg into him!! He has potatos and baked beans with every meal and I think even he is getting abit bored of it now!!

Seems like an excellent opportunity to get him involved in menu planning, shopping and - what the heck - cooking!

Was a bit confused as to why you wanted a potato substitute when he likes potatoes..... If it's just to get more veg into him then suggest you do a 50 / 50 with celeriac, it's the same colour and you don't really notice it so don't tell him and see what he thinks.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I'm a big fan of smuggling things into food and see how they react (usually they don't).

            How about bribery?

Tell him he can do something (I dunno - season ticket for the footie, fishing holiday, new turbocharger and spoiler for the Saxo - haha) he really wants to do if he eats whatever you put in front of him, without fuss, between now and Midsummer... or Halloween... or (why not) Christmas.

With that amount of time he'll probably have come around to liking the stuff anyway!

Or just make a habit of making his favourite desserts but tell him only if he clears his plate... and put a lock on the fridge and freezer to stop him getting at them anyway.

              Polenta ! Already mentioned.

              It's lovely!!

We break it up into chunks, in a roatsting tim with cherry toms, and some chicken breasts - olive oil on top, and roast until cooked.

              LAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRVELY!

I love this suggestion, I quite often bribe him but hes not that easily bribed. I even use bribery with his agoraphobia (he is a real pain in the bum) works a little sometimes but not that often lol. To be honest I have told him Im just gonna start adding things to his plate lol

In our house, I cook a meal and they either eat it or leave it, or eat some of it etc (obviously if its an allergy or their veggie then thats different) I dont namby pamby around.
Had a little girl over with my daughter for tea once, I asked her mother incase their were any allergies etc, and was told she'd eat anything. Made mashed spuds, fish fingers and carrots/peas. It sounds simple quite plain and not in anyway weird, doesnt it? The girl didnt eat anything other than the fishfingers, and told me the potato and veg were disgusting and would make her sick(with appropriate sound effects)...needless to say she never got invited back!!

I figure its probably attention seeking and also if their hungry enough, they'll eat it.

                  Hope that doesnt offend

that's what I was thinking. you could also do a 50/50 with mashed borlotti beans (lots of protein there).

How can you get bored of potatoes? They are the one food I couldn't give up!

Jax - maybe that's the answer... give him nothing but potatoes until he's so bored he starts begging you for something more interesting.

How is he with Chili con Carne? Someone I know lives with a fussy eater and when they have that, his is separated off before the chili powder goes in. Doing it like that you could wean him onto more adventurous tastes by gradually increasing the levels of chili.

                              Oatcakes? Yorkshire puddings?

I don't think I've ever known anyone who won't eat pasta or rice. Apart from one colleague at work who has a gluten intolerance, so doesn't eat pasta; but she says she would if she could

I'm afraid I agree with NorthPaul - after all, he's an adult not a child.
My sister's other half won't eat any veggies - drives me round the wall. So childish. If someone takes the time and trouble to cook a nice meal, the only polite thing to do is to darn well eat it or cook for yourself.
