One thing that has made me very cross, is hearing that Ferry Companies (and others) are doubling their prices to rake in the money from all the extra passengers they've gained, who would have travelled by plane. Greedy b*st*rds!

Are they doubling their prices? Or have the prices just gone up as the boats fill up like they always do?
I'm not suggesting one or the other has happened, I'm just curious.
It really brings home the need for food security and more locally grown stuff in this country though.
That's a lesson that really does need to be learned from this whole thing.
Hands up anyone who thinks it will be learned by most though... anyone?

Probably not. Off hand the only people I can think of who say things like "Why would God let/make that happen?" are atheists. The religious types I know tend to be more of the opinion that it just happens and God didn't do it... so maybe the atheists don't get a pay-out but the theists don't.
It's a funny thought though.
"Act of God."
"Yeah, but he didn't do it... it was natural."
or
"God doesn't exist so it wasn't his act."
"Oh... Ok then... here's your cheque."

I couldn't agree more, Flum! I'm sure no-one will really suffer if they have no imported beans, bananas etc. for a while. They may even come to prefer lovely, fresh home grown grub. And you could always stick a chunk of rhubarb in your G.and T!!
As an aside but on a related theme, I am currently having an argument by email with a French laydee.
Can anyone at home (preferably someone married to/living with a Frenchie) tell me if the word "volcane) exists in French.
She is telling me it isnt in the French language, but I quite simply refuse to believe that. She was a former teacher and also the Secretary of State for education in a previous life so I imagine she is right, but I remember a song by Jacques Brel with the word "volcane" in it. (Yes, I know he's Belgian but its a very similar language they speak over there).

Life's disappointments are so much harder to take if you don't know any swear words.

I heard on the radio this morning that the price rise was due to the companies having to bring extra staff in..........how true it is, I don't know but it is feasable.

Cheers BM.
Pah, whats an extra "e" amongst friends. She gave me a totally different word though, will have to speak to her today and tell her she's wrong. (Although will double and triple check my facts with L'Acadamie Francaise first of all, just in case).

Just spotted two planes high up overhead, so some flights must be heading somewhere... The ones that pass overhead here are on their way to Ireland or the USA - no-where else to go to once you pass over here! There is a main navigation beacon for aircraft just up the coast at Strumble Head, so there are normally vapour trails criss crossing high above.
Life is brief and very fragile, do that which makes you happy.
