    • I've had wine & beer this weekend, but had low-cal dinners to compensate. I've not biked (too windy all week) but have done about 4 hrs pruning & weeding this weekend.

Mr TS is still on the 700 cal diet, doing no exercise but has still lost 4 lb this week

      • If I'm doing Atkins and just eat less of Atkins fare, is that going to give more weight loss or is Atkins based on being 'not hungry'?

Don't quote me, but I find the more I eat, on Atkins, the more I lose. I used to have a big appetite, but not so much now, and I can't force it down, so I find I have to snack!!! Life's a bitch.....

          • If I don't lose a substantial amount of weight this week I'm going to bow out. I don't pig out, I don't snack and my diet is healthy even when I'm not on a "diet", so I wonder if this is the weight I naturally should be and it's just the shape that's shifted with age? We'll see.

FF, I wonder if you are taking in more cals than you reckon you are? You eat pastry don't you? It's very fattening, and there's nothing healthy in it. Ditto things like sausages, biscuits. Just as a for instance

                  • Everything is counted TS. I use the WW points system that I used a few years ago to lose a stone and a half. I'm pretty sure it's to do with my age and physical condition as well as my drug regime.
BTW, don't do biscuits and only occasional sausage and pastry!
I really don't want to become obsessed about losing weight, life's too short.

                    • i lost 5 stone once and its the only time i managed to lose weight really. i wasnt on a diet, i just had dengue fever and couldnt eat. i lost a few stone then got back to the uk and turned vegan as i couldnt hold down any dairy (was already vegetarian) a few more stone came off over a year, cycled lots, joints got better, etc etc then once i started really learning how to cook anything and everything, the weight has crept back on. i think its now that if i want a cake, i can make one (as a vegan you cant just go and buy one) i think this is worse as instead of having a slice of cake from the bakery, i have a whole one sat in my house :/ but im gonna lose weight this year, can feel it. just got to work damn hard as my body is meant to be quite large (massive hips!) so it takes a lot of work.

it can be done though, FF - You just got to find what works for you. try another diet? what diet are you on? personally i wouldnt touch atkins with a stick, it sounds really unhealthy. and there are some diets which are complete rubbish, but different things work for different people so try something else out if it isnt workin, it might just be that diet youro n.

                      • just been told that people naturally eat less off a blue plate. Something to do with so few foods being coloured blue and brain sending a message to eat with caution. Sourced from Essentials magazine.

                        • The biggest thing that helped us with dietting was changing plate size. A small full plate contains the same food as a large half-empty plate, but it is more satisfying off the small plate!
The other trick was replacing 'normal' carbs. Replace half that portion of boiled spuds with boiled carrots, replace half the rice or pasta with stir-fried (minimum oil) mixed veg (stir the cooked rice or pasts into the veg just before serving). Thinner slices of bread, or just less slices per day, etc.
What has helped me is OH finally accepting that HE needs to lose weight too, but since he is losing weight twice as fast as me, he will reach target weight long before I do, and I worry what happens then.

That's fair enough, you aren't hugely overweight anyway, probably just want to be more toned up?

Mr TS is finally losing some weight (his life really will be too short if he doesn't get the flab off - he has a lot more weight to lose than you though FF)

                            • I have an OCD tendency anyway. I couldn't use the calorie counting diet or else I would go on OCD overload (Spreadsheets, weighing, talking about it all the time!

I try to counteract my compulsions by doing the opposite to something I know I would OCD about.

My straight line gardening started to take on a sinister role (measuring plant gaps and angles of beds) so I changed to randomness-ish!

The Atkinssy type of diet suits me because its slightly random (don't shop specially and make use of whats available, helps to clear the freezer of meat thats been in there for yonks also) although I still OCD about weighing myself every time I go to the loo......and yak on a bit too much about it on ere also!

                              • I'm not quite sure how to express this properly, but what I meant was, it's hard to lose weight whatever your size, but I don't have to be obsessional about it because I really do look ok! That now sounds smug and I don't mean to be. Guess I'll get me coat and throw me 'at in next time I come in here.
