  • I've just taken my jeans in again: 9cm off the waist

    - drastically cut down the booze
    - eating one pack of Belvita (or similar) for breakfast & lunch, normal healthy dinner

If I'm hungry between meals (not often) then I have a hot chocolate, a yogurt or a piece of fruit

      • It's hard, I do love wine. I'm drinking Orangina instead or Virgin Marys, and keeping my hands occupied in the evenings (sewing) instead of vegging in front of the telly

        • I find the recipe calculator is great too, and being able to save 'meals' when we often have the same things. Like I said, realising how many calories is in things like butternut squash, carrots and fruit (all healthy choices I know, compared to say chocolate), that I used to eat for 'free' on ww gave me a clue where I was going wrong. Also I measure out a 125ml glass of wine now, rather than just filling a glass
OH is type 2 diabetic, though his dietician's advice conflicts a bit with my view of things (I think low carb is best). At least he is taking resposibility for what he eats, rather than me trying to tell him. He's playing darts tonight, and normally he would have just drank pints without thinking. Last week he only allowed himself one, which he said was really hard, so this week he's going for 2. Before his attitude was that I was nagging him over the drinking rather than realising it was concern that 5-6 really did not help his diabetes.
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

I am soooo with you on this - if the BH had followed the dietetic's advice he'd be dead now. He would've been eating more glucose on the NHS diet than he was before. We've got his BS down from 14.9 on diagnosis to around about 4.6 fasting readings. He's not on Metformin or Statins, and we're really pleased about that - one day he might need them, but for now......

It took awhile to convince him about low carbing, but after just one day he had knocked his levels down by half. And losing weight has been good for both of us - I think it was a welcome wake up call to be honest. There are things we miss, but feeling better makes up for those. We still eat chocolate cake etc etc, and everything is smothered in cream, cheese, or real butter, or fried in lard. We also have very low cholesterol levels.

BS has your OH looked at this site; Diabetes UK, UK Diabetes Resource, Diabetes Symptoms, Diabetes Diet, Gestational Diabetes

Without a word of a lie, and at the risk of sounding very cheesy, it saved our lives!

                • Since joining MyFitness last night, I have had a couple of weird foreign e-mails. I'm hoping it's just a coincidence.

Mr TS has done it by cycling. He does about 30 miles in a week, same as me. I use the bike for work, shopping, going to lotty, whereas Mr TS likes to do his exercise in one big burst of activity: he meets a friend and they bike to a far-off cafe/pub for a light lunch, then bike back. Once or twice a week

Oh dear! I think it is probably a coincidence, I didn't get anything like that when I joined.

Not able to do strenuous exercise TS, but I do keep active. It'll be eating less for me.

Fingers crossed it is only a coincidence Scarey, because I do like the recording system.
I've had nothing since this morning, so it's looking good.

                          • No e-mails I mean, not food. I've had a satsuma, a pear and home made chicken pasta (in passata made with my own tomatoes, basil and garlic, yum).

                            • I've only just checked back here. I've not had any strange emails since joining MyFitnessPal (well no more than usual from about every bank that exists in the whole universe and beyond).

                              • Just a fluke I think BS, so no worries. Another good day today, but Himself made beef stew so I had to show willing. I made the dumplings to go in it but I only had one and very few potatoes, so not bad. Hope you're all feeling lighter and lovlier today. See you tomorrow.
