Laser surgery?

Until recently my eyes have been too bad for laser surgery, on a scale of 1-10 Stevie Wonder scores 11, and he sees more than me.

Now, however, there is a surgery for long sighted blindies like myself which involves cutting the eye, popping in a mini contact lense, closing up and hey presto, vision perfecto.

I've had loads of friends had normal laser surgery and they have all said its great, but I dont know anyone who has had this type.
All feedback from knowledgable types much appreciated, as I'm thinking of having done soonest.

Am considering laser surgery in a few years time when I will hopefully be earning more money.

Don't know anyone who has had it but one of my colleagues would need that procedure if she ever went for it.

My brother has had laser surgery. Not sure what type it was as he was long sighted with an astigmatism(sp). He is really pleased with the results.

Is it similar to having cataract surgery? Sounds a very similar procedure to what my dad had done recently for a cataract. He hasn't stopped going on about how brilliant the result has been.

OH had laser surgery 1 1/2 years ago, and it was a disaster, they never got to the laser bit, he had lots of problems post surgery, and still can't wear contact lens for longer than 2 hours (and even then struggles to get them out without pain). There was an error during surgery but on further reading and questioning, if you get dry eyes, then laser surgery is more likely to be problematic.

No insult intended as don't know your age - If you are on Flomax, that also complicates eye surgery.

My Dad had the lens inserts years ago. He's long-sighted in one eye and short-sighted in t'other. He recommends the procedure to everyone!

As there is a risk with every surgery Bob, I'd be tempted to have one done at a time.

I picked him up from the Hospital, and he said it was weird being able to see the road (in front) with one eye and the path (to the side) with the other, as the anaesthetic hadn't worn off!

I'm weighing up my options (financially) as to whether I have done it at home or in UK.
The prices I'm being quoted for the operation only would mean it being done in France, but its the aftercare that worries me, the costs are steep compared to the UK.
Most laser stuff means eyes better the same day or the next day at worst, but because this is invasive surgery, it says a period of 2 weeks recovery, with 3 further visits. I dont want to be away from home for a fortnight, so logically it means having it done in France, but aftercare will make it expensive.
Will go and have a chat to the eye geezer when I get home (if I bladdy get home, clucking volcano!!!) in Rennes and see (or hear at least) what he has to say.

Spongey, my Dad had his done about a month or two apart. He was sent home same day, and told not to drive. I never took him back for check-ups, so assume, if he had any, he drove himself. If you want any more information, let me know and I'll go pick his brain!

Problem with having them done one at a time is that I am properly blind. If I have one done, I wont be able to wear glasses cos that would put too much strain on the newly brilliant sniper eye, but if I dont wear glasses I will bump into any and everything on the bad side.
This is one of the downsides of working away from home for periods of time.
Although, thinking on my feet as I type (rare indeed) I will have done a couple of months by the time I get home so could take 6 weeks hols at least in May/June, and get them both done separately if they allow me to do them so close together.
Shall hear what the nice man has to say (although they all talk foreign, so may just smile and pretend I've understood).
