  • does anyone have a tip for cleaning blinds

I occassionally get a bucket of hot, soapy water and an old sock and stand cleaning each slat individually. This takes FOREVER. I have on a couple of occasions taken them down and laid them out in the back garden on the paving and mopped them. This is a pain and not very effective. I have once taken them down and put them in the bath. This was also a pain and not very effective.

Can anyone give me a tip for an easy way to clean window blinds, PLEASE!!!!

The first one you can find in bargain shops too. I have seen them in Poundland at times. A friend uses the first one and swears by it.

OOooo. The first one looks good. £ 7.24 with delivery !!!

          Second one £10.24 with delivery.

I will have a look round the Poundstretcher/Wilkies type shops.

Thanks Piskie and Guttata. I know someone would know

How about using a nice warm fabric glove instead? On your hand, of course, wrung out in soapy water- you could do it two handed as well. Just a thought.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

I've not long cleaned my kitchen aluminium blind and I'm afraid I've found the only way to really clean them properly is the slat-by-slat method. I've tried putting them in the bath and swishing them back and forth but there are always bits of stubborn dirt and grease (yeugh) that get missed and it's almost as much of a pain taking them down and putting them up again as it is to clean them.

I've tried the multi-slat cleaner thingy but it tends to just move the dirt to the bit where the strings are and you have to then clean the slats individually anyway. My wooden living room blinds aren't too bad as they just get dusty and you can get away with using a feather or nylon duster but my kitchen blinds benefit from a spray of oven cleaner which makes it much easier to shift the grime. (Or maybe I'm just a minger who leaves them too long).Test it on a small bit first though!

Plot 10, Sounds like you have the same issue as me. I leave them too long between cleans, so its not just you. I can see that the multi-slat cleaner would just push the dust to the strings now that you mention it. I will give the spray a go. Anything that will make the job easier, thanks.

I always used to put them in a bath of hot soapy water. Hang them on the line to dry, and then polish them with spray polish. A lot of work I know but the spray polish always stopped them getting greasy.

On the subject, does anybody have any ideas for cleaning Holland blinds please?

I agree and I would dearly love to but everyone who passes by seems to take great pleasure in staring in to my living room (god only knows why!!) and the bedrooms at the front need some privacy too.
I cant be doing with nets, apologies to all those who love them, but they are not for me.

Be careful how you use the Lynx Boble, you may find yourself flattened by a lady-stampede...unless thats what you actually wanted
