  • So...what have you lost this winter???

Hmm...now that plants are budding up I've had a wander round the garden and potagers.

Looks like I've lost an old peach tree and a blackcurrant- both were pretty poor last summer.
Gladioli bulbs have turned to mush in their pots too.

AND (* sobs) it looks like my olive has gone- although I'll leave it for a few more weeks just to see.

Has this exceptionally long, cold winter seen off any of your 'babies'????

Lemon, calamondin, and 5 bouganvillea. On the plus side my tree lillies are coming on a treat so are the blackcurrants and container fruit trees. I cannot complain.

Two lavenders and I am not convinced that my jasmine is going to come back to life either...

Plus half a shed roof which needs replacing after having snow on it for too long.

Think I have lost a young olive tree too

Am going to have a go at repotting it, in the hope something will happen to it again!

My olive is looking a bit sick, the leaves look very dull but are still attached so I have hope. The bay is also looking pretty sick, it's alive but one side of it has been got by the cold pretty badly. Gave it a bit of a prune last weekend and am hoping it picks up but am guessing it'll never have that nice ball shape again

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I almost lost my lemon, calamondin and mandarin as i put them in a shed, but brought them in the conservatory and cut all thy dead branches away and they are starting to grow new shoots. I lost the passion flower i know 3 others in the same village whos passion flower has gone.

Hmm...my passion flower is doing nothing at the moment I was wondering about it- although it does have one bare green twig.
It's be sad to lose it....( but it's in a fantastic position for a kiwi plant!!!

I think 2 of my baby lemon trees (grown from seed) havent pulled through but my 2 year old one has manfully braved the winter. I left them too long in the unheated greenhouse, having forgotten them when I went back to work, and it was only my friends coming to water a few bits that noticed them.
