I was watching a blackbird and redwing bickering over some ivy berries this afternoon when soaring above their heads came our first swallow of the summer!
Must be a good omen!

I haven't seen a swallow yet - love them but we had a Jay in the garden last evening. Monsieur PN tells me that they rob nests but the flashes of turquoise are fabulous to see.
Since I came home I've seen a few, but just 2 minutes ago whilst watching the finish of Liege Bastogne Liege, I saw my first swallow ..... in my front room.
It flew in, squawked a few times, flew about the room a couple of times and hastily exited stage left.
Brilliant to see, but the boy was a touch confused and is still out in the back garden searching for it.
Hmmm, these swallows are starting to lose their appeal.
In my front room there is a metal bar coming out from the wall which runs for about 3 feet and then screws into the central beam on the ceiling.
There were about a dozen of them sat on it when I just walked in, with the resulting mess on my CanalSat box, and as they flew out, one of them poo'd on my foot.
Dont want to shut the back door as its beautiful here and the heat in the house is lovely, but I think I might have to.
