I wasted some time at work today because I refuse to believe that no-one came from here - extensive research turned up
    Ronnie Wood (allegedly)
Julian Rhind Tutt - now I'm a bit sceptical about this one as I can't imagine anyone being allowed to live with a double barrelled surname in this neighbourhood!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Jonny Wilkinson was born just down the road and played rugby round here as a kid.

Marc Bolan lived just down the road.

The world famous "Lakeside" darts venue is close by.

Lots of beautiful pottery USED to be made here, a little bit still is. Robbie Williams, Slash (guitarist from Guns'n'Roses) both born here, also Lemmy (Motorhead). Staffordshire oatcakes - affectionately known as the Tunstall tortilla and my personal favourites - fruited pikelets. Bottle kilns and one football team that's doing quite well and one that's not enjoying quite so much success.

Feeling a bit down today, so lets go for:
We used to have a thriving fish dock, and most of the herring in UK were landed here
We used to have a thriving boat building industry, and Virgin Atlantic Challenger was built here.
We were the main centre for the support services for the North Sea Oil Fields
What's here now?? NOT A LOT!!

When I was a fishmonger we got loads of fish from Lowestoft - I seem to remember plaice was particularly good

The fishing industry is something to be proud of - lots of our family come from Hull

The fishing industry is something to be proud of, it's just that government quotas, transport costs etc mean that very little fish is caught near or landed in Lowestoft now.

St Nicholas Church is a Gothic style, Grade II listed building and displays pew boxes and stained glass designed by William Morris.

Halewood is home to a massive Motor Company production facility which produces the Jaguar X-Type and the Land Rover Freelander. Everton Football Club have recently opened their extensive modern training facilities and youth academy on Finch Lane Farm site.

I know, sad state of affairs, and mainly why you cant find a decent fishmonger from one town to the next.

Bridport has so many attributes and reasons to be proud I cannot compose a list BUT!! when shopping today in the local greengrocers a TV crew were interviewing the owner. I asked what was going on and learned that RIVERSIDE COTTAGE is coming to town. I don't know when yet but watch this space.....

Samuel Johnson's father owned a book shop in Leek (near where I lived) and Samuel Johnson himself described it as a poor town.
William Morris lived and worked in Leek.
Dave Hill of Demon lives and works in Leek.
Leek has a Double Sunset on midsummers day.
