As much as shops like to use the receipt thing it is not required by law. I have lost count of the number of times I have heard advice that is technically illegal being given by sales people. How did you pay for the laptop and when did you get it?
I hate safe places, I can never remember where they are either.Last edited by Guttata; 23-04-2010, 01:59 PM.

they should, and your bank statement should back up your statementNever test the depth of the water with both feet
The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory....
Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.

All you need is proof of the purchase so get out the bank statement.
Check with your council to see if they have a consumer protection department, not trading standards, as you can get them to help if a shop tries to play silly sods. Scottish consumer law differs slightly from English so these will be able to help even more.
Don't be concerned about going to them. I used the one here against the then Time PC shop we had when they tried to fob me off with a cheque as a refund for a cash purchase. An hour later I was back at the shop getting the cash and the manager wasn't too happy at finding someone who knew what they were entitled to.

As the others have said Carol you should be fine without the receipt as you paid with Visa. 'Safe place' made me laugh, I'm always doing that & my O.H. has a habit of stuffing things in vases around the house, I once looked in a biggish vase of ours & found the spare key to our old car & several receipts for suits, shoes etc. which he'd stuffed in there years before!Into every life a little rain must fall.

Don't think too bad of yourself. The largest number of calls about PCs not turning on are by people who have forgotten to:
Plug it in
Make sure it is switched on at the socket
Plugging the power cable into the back of the PC.
I had a friend phone and wake me up at the ungodly hours of the morning saying "My PC won't turn on". I said check to make sure it is plugged in and switched on, he said it was and I said just check, next thing I got a sorry and he got some language that would make a sailor blush for waking me up
As you can see you are not alone.

I've decided safe places are by far the worst to put something you might need any time soon....however pretty nice when you move a pile of books and come across a nearly full Coop saving stamp bookthe fates lead him who will;him who won't they drag.
Happiness is not having what you want, but wanting what you have.xx

My hubby a computer geek i mean techy thingy too and none of our computers work or if they do bits are hanging out of the them. His mum points out i've got it easy his dad was a mechanic and she had the same problem with cars.
Hope it turns up emptied dustbin once 3 bin bags full of rubbish in search of something important. Might have been wedding ring thinking about it. It turned up in my wallet. But bank statement and a smile should be enough, i'd want a new laptop if its gone wrong twice in 6mths if its hardware.Growing vegetables and flowers to share.
