  • Dutch Ovens.

Andi has this weekend built a sort of permanent Fireplace/pit at the allotment. We often have bonfire suppers and this means we can still have them when we've got no rubbish to burn.(and indeed a planted up plot with no bonfire space)
We usually do the bog standard barbie type foods but would like to extend my range a bit so have been looking at Dutch Ovens.Does anyone have one?
There seems to be such huge differences in price...some about £30 going up to over £100 for the same size...is it a case of getting what you pay for or do you think brand names play a part.Surely cast iron is cast iron?

We've got a 5qt Dutch oven must have had it around 28 years now, it was part of a set that included 3 skillets and a couple of pans. Its the best thing we've ever bought and it gets better each time its used, you wont regret investing in one.
    Location....East Midlands.

This is one of the cheapest sites I've found. They 'look' alright....but I guess you can't really tell from a pic,it'd be handy to have a feel of it.
Can't quite decide whether to go for the 6 or 8 litre...for just a fiver more it probably makes sense to go with the 8.(but then there's the 12 for just another tenner)

You sit them on a big fire Fi and then pop hot 'coals' on the top...creates a little oven.
Apparently you can cook pretty much anything you'd cook in a normal oven in one.

The good news is...Andi's agreed we need one in our lives

We use ours at home as well, you can brown your meat and onions on the hob then put the pan straight in oven like a casserole dish.
