ive been watching a series on the gardening channel recently about restoring a victorian kitchen garden. im not sure when the program was originally made but it looks like late 70s early 80s. im not really interested in history but recently ive been thinking id quite like to read about the victorians and kitchen gardening. anyone know of any books about it?

There's a book about the series, The Victorian Kitchen Garden by Jennifer Davies. It's a nice book to read, lots of anecdotes and written in a chatty style. Not sure if it's still in print, but you could probably pick up a secondhand copy from Amazon or Ebay. I've been watching the re-run of the series on telly as well, had forgotten how good it was.

Hi Leona, I think it was 1985 when that was made. They followed up with The Victorian Flower Garden & THe Victorian Kitchen.

A few years later they did one called The Wartime Kitchen Garden but this has never been repeated or released on Video/DVD (mores the pity).

Someone has recently posted a link to a site (not amazon) whou were selling the 3 programs as a box set that is very tempting as I've worn my videos out

I've just bought the Victorian Kitchen Garden series on two DVD's from Play.com at a bargain price of £5.99 delivered!.
Not a book I know, but an interesting series to watch and keep, especially as it's in a Calender month format!

I used to watch the Victorian Kitchen and it was absolutely brilliant. All cooking should go back to that. None of your fancy nouvelle quisine just good hearty meals. And the odd half pig for breakfast.
