Early retirement

It is with a somewhat heavy heart that I must announce my retirement as a forum moderator for this fantastic place.

I have only been 'at it' for a relatively short time, but during my tenure I have been privileged to see just how much hard work goes into keeping this place the great place it is for all of us. I was honoured to be asked, and I'm now even more honoured to have been part of the team.

The current team will be joined by a new mod tomorrow and I know they are going to do a fantastic job - one I don't think I can match.

I'm hoping that my personal circumstances will change in the not too distant future which will probably mean I will struggle even more to pull my weight, and will prefer to keep my time on-vine as a 'recreational user' - which is why I keep coming back.

Thanks for all your support, understanding and help during my time as mod - it's been a challenge at times, it's been enlightening at others, but most of all thanks to the brilliant backstage team, and the great nature of the grape collective (you lot) it's been a great experience.

Long may it remain that way.

Special thanks to zaz, Fi, Sarz and piglet for holding my hand - sorry about the clammy palms.

It's been emotional.

You're gonna love the new mod. I promise.

Good on yer, HW. You filled the role, albeit for a short while, with verve and tenacity. And you made me laugh - a lot. The best!
I hope this doesn't mean we lose you altogether - I don't think I can bear it...

I have to say - it has been a blast. But Modding does eat up time sometimes better spent on other more exciting stuff. Like jam or wine making So I completely understand.

Right - does the new Mod know they need to bring cakes to the meeting tomorrow? Did you put that in your handover notes?

I'm sure your fellow mods will miss you greatly - thanks for doing such a brilliant job.

On a general note, I think we're double-triple lucky to have the fair-minded, wise, knowledgeable and deeply attractive mods we do, so thank you all. I can't imagine how much time and patience you need to fulfill the role, and we all benefit from it.

You've done a fab job during your modship, now enjoy your retirement! x
