  • things taken off plot

I moved onto my first half plot two years ago, it was six foot high in nettles and brambles, the guy who used to use it kept the other half of the plot and is still on it. When i moved on the lettings secretary told me that he had taken what he wanted off the plot and anything that was on it was therefore mine.
Under all the brambles we found a really old wheel barrow, hubbie fixed the handles, a dis used but decent watering can and a big blue container which we put into use as a waterbutt.

I have not been up my plot for a few weeks as school has been so busy, we went up today and the old fella has been onto my plot and removed the wheel barrow, water butt and watering can.

Feel upset he didn't ask to have them back, he has had two years!! He didn't use them for two years and they were abandoned under six foot of nettles in the first place.

Question, should i just leave it not worth the hassel of raising him taking stuff off my plot, hubbie wonders what else he might take!

Or say something to letting secretary, what would you do?

He goes up to his plot in the week not weekends when i am there.

Has upset me, silly i know.

I share your indignation, I've have a flitter who doesn't know when to call a flit quits, but me being a coward I've kept it buttoned (I can be a right nowty madam when I want to be but in reality absolutely hate confrontation)- however, quite a few swear words have been said under my breath I tell you as I turn round and watch them ripping yet more stuff out one month after their final quit date- I sympathise wholeheartedly - there's nowt left to come back for now - but I've developed a slight tic thinking that won't stop em!

I think I'd say something to the secretary- but leave it at that.
You certainly have good reason to feel miffed- and yes- he shouldn't have done it- esp after 2 years.
It'd be interesting to see what the secretary thnks is the best thing to do. After all- they need to keep a harmony yet use this situation to create some rules.

I'd be really cross too- after 2 years they were clearly abandond. What sort of saddo would nick things like that back

You're not silly, that's YOUR plot not now.I'd have a word,if the guy was evicted(or resigned) what he's looking for on YOUR plot after 2 years???Unfortunately there's too many people on this world thinking"it still belongs to me"-if you keep quiet(just for sake of being polite)you can loose even more-what if the guy turns up at the harvest time to pick up"a few things"?It's your hard work...

Never had an allotment, but I'd talk to 'the management' (secretary in this case) about it.

At our lottie , noone is allowed to go on another persons plot without permission. Luckily all ours have hedges , but I do think you need to speak to the "management" .

You DO need to speak to the secretary; and request them back again. He had 2 years for goodness sake - if they were that important then why didn't he need them in the intermediate time?

                    Two thoughts.
                    1. Yes, have a chat with the secretary to say this has happened. After all, they were the ones to lead you to expect that the things would be yours.
                    2. Prepare yourself for having the barrow, water butt and can re-claimed by the original owner - so you had them on loan for a couple of years!
Third thought - sorry to go over number here - life is too short to get all worked up about stuff!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

And if it is decided that he can keep them; ask him when your OH can get over there and reclaim the 'mending' of the wheelbarrow [as he mended it to make it useable again].

They've been back to mine today and taken some poxy flowers out of the ground - either that or a giant slug invaded overnight!

                          That's theft.

Are you 100% sure it's him?
If so, he need reporting ASAP

This may be extreme and a little pricy!, there is a "landmine"! security device for motorcycles that fastens into the ground very securely, the bike or other item is attached with the usual bike chain, when someone tries to remove the item/bike without unlocking etc the "landmine" explodes dye over about a 4 meter area, a bit like bank security/cash boxes.
Eat well, live well, drink moderately and be happy (hic!)

Think hubbie would like that idea!!! Have emailed lettings secretary and also our new chairman who used to be lettings secretary until recently and will wait for outcome.
Don't actually care about the 'stuff' so much as him invading my space. Thanks guys.
