  • Every cloud has a silver lining

Until now I didn’t believe in the phrase ‘Every cloud has a silver Lining’ but last month proved me wrong.

April was a rough month health wise (no I’m not looking for sympathy) I spent quite a bit of time stuck in bed or resting on the sofa so I made use of the time using up free vouchers and looking for special offers that I could afford and taking advantage of free P&P offers.

    1. I used a £1 free voucher with T&M just use up the voucher but those who know my luck with T&M know if it can go wrong it will go wrong, yet again they managed to mess a order up, so I with a few spare minutes on my hand I wrote a email explaining what I thought of them (polite but to the point) and that they had messed up every order from me, They actually got back to me this time, they said that they had passed the letter further, they had already changed some of the systems and were working to fix the rest (I will wait and see) The upshot was I received a £10 free voucher a 10% discount and with my next order.

    2. I opened a packet of Pansy seeds that I purchased last year locally to plant up a seed tray, the packet said it had 100 seeds in it when I open the packet it only had 11 seeds in it. I emailed the seed company explaining my disappointment as although I didn’t need 100 seeds 20+ was what I was looking for. On the next Friday I received a replacement pack which was great but what happened next was even better, I had ordered some strawberries and some seeds earlier in the month from the same company and those seeds had been delivered Mid April, but out of the blue a duplicate order of seeds arrived closely followed by a second lot of strawberries.

    3. I purchased some Primula seeds as wells as some quarter seed trays from Suttons,
The seeds arrived shortly after the order as well as the Seed trays but there was a problem the tray order was short and to make matters worse a couple of the trays were broken, I phoned Suttons, they were very apologetic they said straight away they would replace all the damaged trays and the missing trays and they said I could have the remaining trays for free and they would send the complete order again which meant I got 7 trays for free ( with a little bit of glue I fixed the others so I’m ten trays up) while waiting for the tray order I was checking though their webs site and saw one of the propagators I own so I thought I would write a review just for fun, the next weekend I received a £25 voucher for writing the review, I had no idea that they awarded a voucher for the best review let alone that I had won it. Some of you are aware I bought a Seed Tray Shelf with that voucher + the £5 voucher that came in the latest catalogue on the day I ordered it (great timing or what?)

    4. I went into a local Homebase and noticed some Red Currant and Gooseberry bushes on offer for 99p (slightly passed their best but all doing well In my garden now) so I bought several plants the lad on the counter gave me a Homebase discount card even though I didn’t spend £10 let alone the £30 you were supposed to spend to get it.

Because I had time on my hands because of resting I managed not only to find discount codes on almost all these orders I also signed up for a cash back site after reading quite a few reviews, so far I have managed to get over £14 in my cash back account which I can get paid into my Paypal account in a couple weeks time.

    So far I have got

    A £10 voucher and 10% discount from T&M
A free replacement packet of pansies
A duplicate order of seeds £7.50
A duplicate order of strawberries (24 plants) 5.96 offer price 19.96 full price
    10 Quarter seed trays £6.00
    all for free and
I have a Homebase discount card without having to spend £30 to get it
    I received a £40 seed tray stand for £10.

I also managed to get 20% discount on an online plant order for my OH

It could also be Good Karma but I'm dammed if I know what I did wrong to have my health problems

I don’t imagine this luck will continue for much longer but I’m enjoying it while it lasts

Nice bit of luck there, makes me wonder how many orders you've put in, or have you just had problems with ALL your orders?

Hopefully you'll get some kind of compensation on your health next, that really will be a silver lining

You're so right, enrich; everything, however apparently unfortunate, brings something good in its wake. We all wish that we hadn't done this or that, or that we had done it differently, but there is always something gained from the experience that would not have occurred had we not made the choices we did.

Like you I have had to spend much of the past five years either lying or sitting down, though I have not thought of hunting up vouchers from the armchair! Good idea - I'll get on to it right away! Hope you're feeling a bit better now.

Sad about your health - I am sorry, but good that the companies have shown good will and are taking care of their customers no matter how small the order.
My view is that whilst I get annoyed when my orders etc go wrong -these things happen, It's what and how the company deals with the problem that really counts!
I wish you well with your health BL
