Hi Folks,

An update, tried various other tricks including removing ms updates but still wouldn't work, after checking the web and seeing 100's of people had experienced the same/similar symptoms I took the decision to rebuild.

I then found out that my Dad had made some recovery disks as prompted when he first switch the PC on, result.

Backed up his data, used recovery disks, restored data, took around 2 hours.

My concern now is I left it running OK but downloading 80 ms updates, only time will tell but I did praise him for actually creating the recovery disks.

That said I called him about 30mins ago and asked how the updates had gone,
