  • Eek! I've got to go under the knife

I've been suffering with pain in my hands and wrists for 3 years now. Well I've been advised to have bi-lateral carpal tunnel release. Has anyone had this done? I've been told I could be out of action for up to 6 weeks I can hear the weeds laughing.

      Oh, good luck Bex.
I had one hand done last June - it galvanised me to put up a 'help wanted' card in the newsagent and lo and behold - all my problems sorted!
I now have help on the lottie and it has never looked better.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Never had it done Bex, but I seem to recall there are a few people on here that have had it, as well as Jeanie.
        Best wishes for the op.

A friend of mine at work had both wrists done (at different times!) last year and said it was such a relief. She was out of action for about the same time that you've mentioned, but said it was well worth the inconvenience to have the pain go away. Hope it goes well for you.

It's important that you DO have it done or you could suffer from permanent muscle loss and use of your hands. It happened to a friend of mine in one hand so she was quick off the mark with the second one! She healed very quickly, though. It can be done with keyhole surgery.

Mum in law has had both done - one at a time. She had got to the stage where she couldn't knit (her favourite hobby) and eventually couldn't sleep without hanging the ofending arm out of bed. Worked miracles. She watched them do it too - said it was fascinating.

Haven't had it done myself but know of people that have had it done and they've never looked back. As Patchninja said you can have it done by key hole surgery these day's which speed's the recovery time up, good luck with your op and a speedy recovery.
When are you having it done???

I've booked a date for mid June. I've got private medical through work so I'm taking advantage. It will be keyhole and the doc said 6 weeks maximum to be off work so I'm aiming to be back at work after 2 weeks. I'm a bit worried about the pain afterwards as I'm a wimp and I'm also worried about the state of the lottie as I won't be able to do anything but apart from that I'm glad to be getting it sorted.

jackiej had it done, I think it was last year. Sounded like it was a tad frustrating, but 6 weeks soon passes.
Will you be having it done to both hands at the same time?
Might be a good idea to recruit a lottie helper now, so you can teach them how to wield a hoe Or start mulching everything you can with straw/newspaper/card?!

A friend of mine had it done and she is now free from the pain and restrictions that she used to have.

                        good luck.
