question for the 'knitters' on here please

One of those instant purchases.......
Saw some nice wool at a market. Loved the colour and look of the wool- then the nice lady said it makes a skinny frilly scarf. It's really easy.
But, I cant remember how she said to knit with it
Something about putting your needle in the edge of the yarn every inch or so.(to make the frills I guess)
She said you only need to cast on 6 or 10 stitches and work in stocking stitch....but looking at the wool how the heck do I knit with that!!!!!
its odd wool, looks like a thick wool (has a soft cotton feel about it, rather than hairy wool) but you unravel it and its like a sort of loose netting effect.
Can anyone help please. If you can understand any of the above of course

sorry folks - my question is hard to describe. Thanks PAULW - I am ok'ish on the stitches and know how to work in stocking stitch.
I have the wool here with me today its......as HF reaches for wool - it has
Four Seasons Grundl on the label and its called Flamenco uni????? - Made in Germany perhaps.

The wool looks like a very very thick cotton based wool - it you straighten out a section it looks like a netting- about an inch to an inch and a half wide (it curls up into what looks like just a thick strand of wool until you unravel it.)

You knit into the wool (mesh) at about 1" intervals (lady said) she also said it was really easy!!!!!???? this gives you the 'frills' I guess.
I have tapped in 'frilly scarf' on web and can see a pic but no how to make? When the stall lady showed me it looked as if she was just knitting as per normal (guess I thought oh yeah I can do that ok- looks easy, but now and with it in my novice hands I can not seem to find my way at all.
Nice sludge'ie green coloured wool though.... which it what drew me to it!

Start by sorting out the 'outisde' of the yarn. You need the edges that curl together on the outside, furthest away from your body.Stretch out the yarn. Cast on by inserting needle into the top of the frill or as you call it netting. leave your 1" interval and cast on next stitch. I used about 14 stitches for my scarf.
To knit put your needle into the stitch leave a 1" interval in your yarn and then insert your needle into the top of the yarn like you did when your were casting on. Pull your stitch over the yarn stitch you have made, just like casting off. I think it's similar to french knitting.

Headfry, the best reference I have found says there are knitting instructions on the ball band. If you want to send it to me I can play with it and send back a knitted scarf (assuming I can work it out)

I am now on scarf number 3 with three more to go!!!!!
The black looks fantastic....I am using just ten stitches - takes a while as you have to unravel the wool as you knit, it makes it very fiddly!
I fancy trying a short sleeved jumper next .....gulp!
