  • Grapestock - the countdown

Ok, so it's 15 weeks away, but we thought it'd be sensible (now that we have a good idea of confirmed numbers) to start getting an idea of what we 'need' and who can bring what.

Sarz has kindly organised sanitary facilities - which does involve a cost, so there is a small fee which I'm sure we all expect and are willing to pay. Currently the cost is working out at just under £10 per adult camper, and just under £5 per adult day visitor.

That bit's fairly easy to sort out (I say - Sarz/Pumpkin Becki may well disagree), and it's been suggested that we pay via something like Paypal. It's widely used, tried and tested and reliable. Unless anyone has any other suggestions I'd suggest we go that way - there will obviously be the odd one or two that don't/won't have a Paypal account, but hopefully the majority will and it'll ease the process a little. We'll have to sort out some other method of payment for those not using Paypal - but in the interests of Sarz's sanity, can I ask that those that can, do.

Also thought it sensible - for those that are confirmed as coming, to draw up a list of things we think we will need and things people can offer to bring along.

Food and drink is an obvious one - I would suggest bringing our own (and more if you want to share, or show off your culinary skills), but we will need barbecues/fuel - weather permitting.

So, let's start a list (might call upon the skills of PB for this one) of what we think we need, then when we're all reasonably happy - we'll start another for those that can bring various bits on the list.

Sound sensible? I'll get things started...

    Things we need.
    1. Barbecues
    2. Gazebos
    3. Barbecue fuel
    4. Cooks

Some sort of lights to guide our way to the 'facilities' in the middle of the night. Probably solar powered.

We have, if necessary a large gazebo, actually, we've got 2!

They are like the square normal ones, but one is 2 squares big, and the other is 3 squares big (if that makes sense)

          Happy to bring them along?

Also happy to contribute to cooking - we have a small but powerful gas BBQ that we use for camping, and have done some parties and stuff with.

I'm so sad we can't make it to join you all . (We have the step-kids staying with us, and they fly back home from Glasgow on the Saturday).

But we've been doing a bit of camping recently and I would recommend:

-a torch as mentioned before, but preferably the lantern type you can hang up inside the tent (or outside)
-blankets - either for wrapping round shoulders if the evening is chilly, or for sitting on
            - toilet roll!!!
            - Kitchen roll
            - plastic wine glasses
            - plastic wine glass holders that prong into the ground

All of you have a fab time, and don't worry about me feeling all left out
            Caro

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day

I think Mr Frosty has a Paypal account so will get him to pay Just supply me info and amounts - ta Because of this thread I've got The final Countdown by Europe going through my head - okay I admit I watched the 80's TOTP Special. Is there any nice deli's/farm shops etc nearby as we will be staying in a hotel and can't bring food from FW (travelling by train) Oh and can we mooch hot water if we promise to bring our own tea bags

Can bring a couple of blankets, Ghillie Kettle, midge candles. Don't mind helping out with the cost of fuel for the barbie

Is it worth putting signs on the road towards the site?
For those without satnavs or in case the satnavs can't find the address.

Shelley, the gazebos would be great

The loos will need some of those little LED lights stuck in them, they don't have lights inside. There's an outside light next to the barn, so should be able to see to get into them okay.

Everyone should bring their own torches/lamps whatever because to get to the loo we'll have to walk past a pond and I don't want anyone falling in because they can't see...

Things like crickets sets/soft tennis/footballs etc to keep the kids busy might be a plan too?

The local village has got a great butchers, a Co-op, a bit of a deli etc. The nearest town has loads of butchers, market stalls, deli's, supermarkets etc.

Beginning of June, I will start sending out PMs with payment details, address/postcode, directions etc. I've just got one last Uni assignment to do (for 28th May) and then I'll be right on the ball...
