  • My word of the day

    Today, is muppet.

As is usual - LadyWayne had gone to work, I'd got up and dressed, changed Bean, dressed Bean, fed Bean.

I had some spare time so figured I'd make the Rhubarb schnapps from the recipe found on these fine pages.

I put the Kilner jar in the steriliser, compiled my ingredients and waited.

The steriliser finished and I carefully (it was 'ot) took the jar out.

In went the cloves, in went the sugar and in went the cinnamon stick and then I poured in the litre of vodka.

    Anything missing?

Yep. Clue's in the name - 'rhubarb schnapps'.

Coincidentally I'd dressed Bean in his Kermit the Frog t-shirt.

He he, no. I went for a couple of interviews last week. One I really liked the sound of, one I'm not so keen on.

I didn't get the one I really liked - but, apparently they've changed their minds about what they want (having already changed their mind prior to me being interviewed). Still, it would have been nice.

                        Look at it this way.

You didn't want to work for them anyway - why would you go and work with an organisation that vacillates and messes people around?

Same principle applies to relationships, Ollie!

                          Tell me about it!

I went for 2 interviews in one week last year, one for a similar job that I was made redundant from, more the subject matter I like and several of my mates work there, the other wasn't such a familiar subject, less pay and a little less interesting sounding. But the first job kept postponing the second interview date and messing about and in the end I had to go for the second job on the risk of not getting either.
When I started it turned out that I was now working with the guy who had left the first company to create the space I had been interviewed for, he said it was awful, the boss was an idiot and no-one there knew what they were doing, my new manager also knew of them and confirmed most of this.

                          Worked out nicely I suppose

The first job was nice and friendly, a family run place that really believed in the product/service. It would have given me the chance to 'create' and influence. However - like you say, they seemed a little uncertain of what they want.

The other job was again, an informal chat/prelim interview. Second stage is a psychometric test, third stage is a presentation in front of the head of division and the team of product managers. A much more corporate company and ethos, and I'd be working for the global marketing function - in a kind of role reversal to what I'm doing now.

There's something out there I'm sure - and for the time being I at least still have a job.
