I think the issue for lots of people is once the weight is put on - for whatever reason, illness, change of diet, taking up drinking too much etc. Then it is a devil to lose and it gets put back on very easily. So a genetic trigger, once tripped, cannot be turned off.Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

I do think the fat gene exists ! i dont diet or watch what i eat and drink and i weigh 8 1/2 stone, my daughter can eat for england ! and shes 15 5ft 7 and 7 stone ! my mum in law though is a very big lady, her daughter is the same shape plus her grandma too, my hubby although he eats less than i do, is turning into his dad, a barrel on legs, so yes i think it exists.

adipose is a gene that controls adipogenesis, which is the process of making fat cells. Every animal has fat cells. How much lipid you store in your fat cells is what makes you fat. How much you metabolise and how you metabolise is also important.

A point about the exercise. It is useful to do some cardiovascular stimulation. The type that makes you breathe faster and heart rate increases. This is what is needed to burn that fat. But do this carefully and gradually to begin with if you are not used to it and then build it up slowly.

the fat. Adipose tissue is inflammed as it's full of lipids and it starts leaking stuff out. All that attracts macrophages (the body's response system) and the macrophages start a cascade of signals that attract other macrophages to try and stem the flow.
