  • Broadband provider recommendation?

I've had it with Plusnet and so am looking to move provider.

We can't get LLU out here, but really only want/need 2MB speed, don't do games or p2p but use about 6 - 8 GB bandwidth a month.

Migrated from Pipex to Plusnet, any recommendations where to go next? Not too expensive though.

We are with TalkTalk and occasionally have problems connecting to the mail server in the early evening but otherwise nil else. You need a BT line and I know they have had some bad press due to people waiting ages for modems etc.

Have no other experience really to base on. We were on dial-up with ntl which was a waste of time but had to go to a BT line for broadband.

I don't understand all the technospeak but I'm with Orange. I have my desktop computer and this laptop whick is WiFi. I can leave them connected all day everyday. The connection speed is excellent, no waiting for anything to load up. I think I pay £14.99 a month. Suits me. I've never had a problem or a complaint. I don't know off the top of my head (over my head) what the dowload limits are, but I've never encountered it. I'm staying where I am.

Yes I'm with Tiscali too and it have not found it a problem. We've only got 2mb download but thats because of where we live (in the middle of nowhere!). We pay £17.99 a month and that includes free access to broadband (24 hours) and all our calls to within the UK free as well. We just pay the BT monthly connection.

Best speeds offered by cable companies. i am with Telewest...soon to be Virgin (that takes me back!!). Unlimited download and negiotiate rates every three months when I threaten to leave....they always seem to have a good deal to get me to stay.....works with Sky TV as well!

Tiscali has gone down about 3 times in the last few months. That's no use to me. Emails - I have never had a problem with emails whilst I was with BT but with Tiscali I keep getting undelivered emails back and I don't even receive some emails that are sent to me. This happens alot so I have two computers on in the hope of catching all my emails. I personally find the service is hopeless.

being in town, we were 'cabled' by NTL years ago, so when bubblewrap & I got together it made sense to stay with them. Don't know if they dug all the streets up near you though, SBP.
When No 1 techie son & I lived in the village we started with Virgin in 1998, then went to Tiscali in 2000, but at that time they couldn't do broadband so we went to BT until we came here.
Haven't really had a problem with any of them, but No 1 techie son is brill at smoothing out the rough bits, and we do sometimes have to 'reboot' the server upstairs, but no real problems.
Because he wants excessive download speeds (runs a forum himsef), we pay a fair bit for 10mgb, but it's lovely.

We've hardly got any streets to dig up hereabouts M-B!

I had a 'near miss' with Tiscali when we lived in Essex - I signed up, they said oh sorry you can't have broadband, we cancelled, BT said ahh but you're connected to Tiscali! What!? Anyway after lots of arguing we got Tiscali to free us from a service they weren't providing but we were connected to! Oh well!

Even considering AOL - must be mad!!!

We defected from UK Online after Christmas as they couldn't keep to their own timescale to upgrade us from 1 to 8 gig and then couldn't guarantee when they might be able to.

So (like Alice) we went over to Orange. Not only did they beat their own deadline by a week, the service seems spot on. We get another phone line that gives us free calls evening/weekends which means I can reduce my free mins on the mobile from next month.

We pay £19.99/month (but going to look at why we pay more than Alice ).
Catch up with my daily doings at http://kaypeesplot.blogspot.com/ and http://kaypeeslottie.blogspot.com/ but wait a while cos these are well out of date ! Don't want to ditch them entirely cos I'll never remember the urls !

Took me a while to understand this thread.
I glimpsed at the title on the menu and presumed it said BroadBean so couldnot understand the reference to Tiscali etc.
                          It must be getting late!!

We are with BT and its brilliant, free online norton protection, phone calls plus 8mb speed.

We're with BT. We pay 45Euro per month for unlimited access and it has never let us down.
