Saw a business programme on the TV months & months ago. It seems that far eastern manufacturers are trying to head off any import restrictions to Europe by simply taking over existing European companies. This means that their current products will still be reasonable, but not up to the standard on which they established their reputation for quality. I think Pfaff is one such case, though you'll have to check with a shop or something. That means you might be better off getting an older, reconditioned model, or having your own machine professionally serviced and overhauled

Yes, but on many models, you can un-plug it and use a start/stop button instead. Why?
