I misjudged, and how happy I am to be wrong.

One of my drivers is a horrible creature. Lazy, rude, often late, bad personal hygiene, overweight and his car is only ever cleaned under duress.
I have been trying to find a way to get rid of him for ages, but this being an ex French colony, labour laws here are making it very difficult.

Yesterday though, he guaranteed his job for as long as I'm here.

One of our security guards came into my office in tears. His daughter was in hospital for an operation and it hadnt gone as well as it could. She needed a blood transfusion but hers is a very rare blood type.
Just as he said that, said driver was slouching past my office, and said

"Thats my blood group type, I will go with you now to the hospital and give blood."

Nobody knew his blood group, he didnt have to say anything but his basic human kindness almost bought a tear to this grizzled old bloke.

That was a very noble and humane thing for him to do Bob, but do you think it will make him less lazy, rude and fat, more punctual and hygienic? Is it just the way you judge these things to be of less importance now he has been so selfless? I do hope this young woman makes a full recovery.

It wont change his basic character Flo, not at all. Clearly his basic character is one of human kindness, but his comportment is one of extreme indolence.
Professionaly I dont like his behaviour at all, but for him to have done what he did means that I will excuse his faults (except lateness for which he will continue to be punished financially) for as long as I am here.

More's the pity eh Bob? Sometimes in cases like these our tolerance is pushed to the limit. It'll be a bit easier for you to excuse him his faults now! Do let us know how things go with her recovery.

Oh dear oh dear I feel I am going to rue this statement. I sincerely hope I have never judged anybody by their appearance or attitude. They may not always be my 'cup o tea' but not knowing their history I always try not to make a judgement. Yep - you are right I am a pompous pratt and proud of it. May I add that I have few friends but even fewer enemies.

It's nice to know that when the proverbial hit's the fan there was someone there to help Bob...in this case it was Mr "I don't care about personnel hygiene Man", it's a rare quality. It won't change the fact that he's a smelly, obnoxiousness, lazy pain in the bum but it goes a long way into forgiving his down fall's.
