  • National Vegetarian Week

Just wanted to wish any fellow veggies out there a happy NVW.

To celebrate I organised the fellow veggies at the office to bring food in for everyone to try. This os the third year we have done this an I am still amazed by people's reaction who thought we only ate rice!!

Personally two of the dishes I ttok in were taken from GYO's sister magazine "Cook Vegetarian" so thanks for that folks.

Do the meat-eaters respond with similar kindness and bring their food in for everyone to try?
The proof of the growing is in the eating.
    Leave Rotten Fruit.
    Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potasium - potash.

I am not vegetarian by a long shot, but love vegetarian food, so good luck with it and wish you were all closer!

Yeah, I like a lot of vegetarian stuff (but not willing to give up meat entirely). I can cook vegetarian, and vegan for that matter.
I am (in my mind) inventing a vegan version of my Paella. I got the idea when my son was going out with a vegan (who has moved on, and he now has a lovely Mexican wife).
Oh yes I think it can be done! I would need the right spices, and lots of colourful veg, and assorted nuts for the protein (almonds, walnuts and pinenuts sounds a good mix to me, since all are readily available in Spain).
Enjoy your week all those who have chosen to leave out the meat.

I had no idea it was NVW but then, it always is in our house. We don't eat anything that had parents.

No, but it's probably because there isn't an "eat a pig" week. If there were, I'm sure a lot of meat-eaters would spoil their workmates with something yummy.

Is there a freudian omission above.? The word "like" has been omitted.

I'm not a vegetarian. Man's brain developed from eating meat... :-)

Patchninja........just because I do not eat anything that has had a dump, does not mean that My food is tasteless.....My food (VEGAN) is absolutly scrummy! I dont normally ram my ideals in any ones face, but when there are stupid comments posted by meat eaters it really does get on my last nerve! I make food that is alot more full of taste, colour & texture than anything that has rotting flesh in it!! HAPPY NATIONAL VEGGIE WEEK!! YUM YUM!!

I have veggie paella before - probably doesnt bear that much resemblance to the real thing - but certainly very tasty. I am fairly sure it was vegan actually since I dont think there was anything dairy or animal-derived in it.
Lots of spanish paprika, peppers, peas, celery etc.

I've also had tofu jambalaya, which is similar-ish only much spicier - absolutely gorge (tho appreciate tofu may not be up everyone's street, I think it was smoked tofu to give more flavour).

Happily send you the recipes if you want to PM me.

There's always one who'll do a wind up,and equally, according to sods law of fishing, there'll be one to take the bait.

                            :::sigh:::

I simply posted my comment because of the previous one about the fact that meat-eaters weren't generous in sharing what THEY ate. I have absolutely no opinion whatsoever on what you eat and care less. I will eat anything as long as it's well cooked. Veggies too! I don't feel that my post called for your rather tasteless reaction.
HELP. I think I need moderating!!! Anyway, I'm off to work.
