A third party cookie is just that, a cookie created by a 3rd party. So for example, I'm the 1st party and I open up a browser window to look at the Vine, who are the 2nd party. Unless you take action otheriwse, the pages of the Vine may contain adverts which are served by other companies (3rd parties), for example Google. These 3rd parties may try to set cookies on your machine. Depending on your settings, these cookies may be automatically accepted, automatically denied, or you browser may pop up a window asking if you want to accept the cookie.

A cookie created by a given domain can, under normal circumstances, only be read by that domain. So, for example if you allow google.com to create a cookie on your machine that cookie can only be read by google.com. It cannot be read by growfruitandveg.co.uk, doubleclick.net or any other domain.

Bloomin Heck Paul, ask a simple question and take two days to understand the answer
Thanks for the info, and yes I did understand it.
As I said originally it doesn't bother me as I know it's not malicious, but I wondered how it worked. I must spend too much time on here cos I usually get gardening ads, despite never shopping for garden stuff online

Boble, I got a dating agency in Britain..they're out of luck bigtime

Zazen, yes it IS scarey what info is collected on us nowadays, without our knowledge often.

Bishop, I usualy delete cookies and browsing history before I log off, but have neglected lately as been a bit busy. Spyware doc lists adware, so I can get rid that way too..is that what you meant?

          Dear Paul,
Please ask Google not to use my name in vain.
          Thanks
          Mary
