Can you recommend a hotel?

For a single night for LadyWayne and I?

Must be - no more than 1&1/2-2hrs drive from Bedfordshire.
Have a good restaurant - or very good eating nearby.
Budget - around £100 per night (ish)

Just looking for something a little different/quirky that doesn't have the cellophane wrapped biscuits and tea making facilities.

Give you an idea - here's some of the places we've stayed before (not necessarily within the above mentioned budget/criteria):

It sounds like we're now just looking for a nice place (village/town/city) to visit that has a nice restaurant and a decent hotel...

Does it still have to be an hour or so drive, I can recomend The Bickley Mill Newton Abbot its a pub come hotel. But its a bit further than you want to travel. Dont know if its quirky enough.

Can't recommend any of the hotels personally but the whole of East Anglia is lovely and stacked with interesting villages / towns as is the whole of the UK TBH.

Cambridge and Bury St Eds are just up the road from me and I take them for granted but they're both interesting and lively. Newmarkets sandwhiched in between them and you could go to a night meeting, they have bands on after the races, Girls Aloud, Boyszone etc have all played there.

Looks very nice - but as it's just an overnight visit, a 5 hour drive is probably a bit far.

I do like East Anglia - but it just takes forever to get anywhere. We've relatives just outside of Ipswich (Kesgrave?), but rarely see them.

The Felix did come up on another site we looked at - Cambridge is lovely, and just about far enough. It's a contender.

Odd you should mention both of those - we're planning on visiting the RiverCottage canteen in Axminster when we stay in Beer, and LadyWayne last night said that she fancied staying in Oxford and booking a table at Jamie's Italian there...
