been to Turkey?

Hi we are off to Turkey next week and staying near the 'blue lagoon' at Hisaronu / Olu Deniz.
I have heard that the mozzies might be a problem there...has anyone been near there who can confirm or deny?

I find France to be a prob for me with mozzies but Spain not... and not really much of one with Greece or Cyprus but normally go much later in the season. Cuba was a nightmare with a giant lake thing near us and the mozzies were out in the day as well as evening and I got eaten alive even with repellent on.

Never been to Turkey so can't say what it will be like.

I have been to fethiye in turkey and visited olu deniz and hisaronu. I didnt find the mozzies a problem at all until I got on the plane and they sprayed everything lol. Its an amazing place, you'll love it. The only thing I will say is avoid the tap water.

It's a few years ago,but in Marmaris a lorry used to go round in the early hours spraying everywhere,the town smelt of paraffin.It was gone the next day.
It is the middle east,so expect it to be different to where you've been,I liked it.You will be hassled a lot and offered some rubbish to buy,just use your loaf and understand there's no such thing as a cheap"bargain".
The people were friendly,just desperate to make a living from the rich tourists,oh and it's as hot as hades too(we went in August,not a clever idea,too hot)

My sister just got back from Turkey (Sunday) and has spent quite a bit of time in A&E in the last few days being treated for a mozzie bite which got infected and made her whole leg and foot swell up
Not sure which part of Turkey she went to though.

I went to Olu Deniz a few years ago and there were no mozzies at all that I can recall. I think I remember them saying that it's because it's surrounded by mountains, not sure how true that was.

I used to work for a Doctor in Marmaris...sorry,but yep,we had an awful lot of people come in with mossie bites.(that said,they were still the minority)
I also used to do Airport/hotel transfers.The advice we gave people was come the evening try to cover up,cool trousers and long sleeves.Also if you think you've been bitten take some anti histamine.I also found eating lots of garlic put them off

Try not to let it worry you.The majority of people that visit Turkey have no major reaction to the bites.
If you do happen to be one of the misfortunate then for Gawds sake get yourself either to a doc or Chemist before it gets really bad.....the worst cases were when people had put off visitting a doc for a few days and waited for their legs to treble in size

Other than that...an absolutely beautiful country(if not a tad bit spoilt through tourism),incredibly friendly people and lots of glorious sunshine.

OH (has been there cos his dad lives in Turkey now) says not usually a problem in summer...also if you find a gold ring in the blue lagoon with AW on the inside...please bring it home for him .
Also if you want to try the base jumping or parascending etc go to the marquees, who are usually legit, and ask to check their insurance, they wont mind. But there are a lot of cowboy operators who wander up and down the beaches.

Thanks guys, getting excited now, but so much to do beforehand, it's a bit scary and I've been in bed ill all day

I will take sting relief and antihistamines and we have a spray repellent. It's me that normally gets bitten, OH not at all and not sure about the boys

As well as repellant.
Take some plug in mozzie machines with you (and travel plugs). Shut the windows and plug them in . When sitting out on your balcony buen some citronella candles to help repel them . Also do a careful mozzie hunt of the walls and ceilings before you go to bed.
.......and if you find a lizard in your room keep hime there. He'll spend all night eating the little b......s.

Have had my holiday in TURKEY for the last few years. Never had a problem with the mossies. I also had all my dental repairs done and can only praise the dentist and their prices.
We stayed in Kusadasi and it was great. We are going again in the autumn.

We've been to Turkey a few times. The mossies love me but ignore my OH. I used repellent, ant-histamine tablets, plug ins in the bedroom etc and STILL got bitten and my bites always get infected - mind you they do here too! I paid visits to local doctors who were just delightful - really pleasant, helpful and kind! Echo everything everyone else has said - fabulous country, lovely people, amazing antiquities and sites to visit. Enjoy!!

We are going to Turkey in three weeks, staying in Fethiye,Chalis Beach. Can't wait. We went Ichmeler last year and had the best holiday ever. Lovely place, people and beautiful scenery. Last year we took vitamin B6 and garlic each day a week before we went, used tea soap,lemon spray while we were there. Might sound like over kill but OH reacts really badly to bites and it's things like that that can ruin a holiday. Worked well and we only ended up with a couple of bites. Take antihistamine as well.
You'll have a great time. Your money goes a long way and you'll meet some lovely people.

I stayed in Olu Deniz 2 years ago and no mozzies. They do go around and spray from a van and that seems to have a big effect. Make sure you try the paragliding its brill. The sunsets were amazing to watch from the beach.

Also this is a good bar - Oludeniz Buzz Beach Bar - Olu Deniz Fethiye Turkey and they have a webcam so you should be able to see what it is like before you go. Have fun
