I have a bird nest box. I have a tall pole (metal). My problem is: how do I attach the one to the t'other? I just can't get my head round it. Can't nail it, can't glue it. Tried tape, didn't work

You can either drill a hole through the pole and then screw put a screw throught the hole into the back of the bird box.
Or drill two holes about 2" apart in the back of the box and thread a cable tie in one hole, back out of the other and then zip the tie up round the pole.
Thanks for the positioning tip Benacre. My daughter and I made a box at a local event last week and was wondering where was best to site it.
Will get out the compass!
You dont need a compass to work out the direction of North Vicki!
Look at any trees locally and see which side has the green moss/algae growing on it, that will be the north side, or alternatively look at where the sun is in the sky at midday, then directly opposite it is North, or third method, go outside at night and look to the stars, if you can find the plough, then the 2 stars in the end of the blade act as a pointer, follow the direction they point 'up', and the next star you 'hit' in Polaris, the pole star, due North!
Thanks Mrs.D
Thats great, tried to find the compass today with no luck.
Will look for the moss tomorrow instead, that will be easier to find.
Went out in the pooring rain today cos there was the most beautiful rainbow. Felt so good to be standing on the plot with the rain and sun and a beautiful rainbow. A reminder of the good yet to come on the plot!
