I have a facebook account, with 1 friend on it which happens to be my brother.I had over 300 friends at one stage and decided I had read enough about how much they had to drink the night before and how rough they were feeling now,how much they love their kids...don't we all but most of us don't need to prove it by writing it on the internet four times a day.
So I cut all those people out then I looked at all my friends that I see or speak to everyday (the friends I really want to bother with, not people who have collected me as their FB friend to add numbers!)and took them out and was left with my brother
I find Facebook great now,if I need to get in touch with my brother and cant get through on the phone I can send him a message,if I want to show him a photo of my garden/son/dog I can (do you think the fact that I put garden before my son is wrong?... )

About 10yrs ago I joined friends reunited and got cyber stalked (is that the right phrase?) by a married ex from 20yrs ago who wanted to meet up but 'not tell the other halves'. I left him in the first place because of his philandering ways and had to threaten him with my 'big hairy hells angel then boyfriend, now hubby. OH was none of these things but it did the trick. I'm now wary of social websites!!!

All my parents (yes ALL) are on Facebook now, and because of them, my work colleagues and the Grapes in my friends list I've toned down a lot of my language and most of the poor taste jokes (not all ), but it's nice to be able to share things with them.
I use Facebook like a picture-blog of my garden, and it's great to be able to share pictures with my family.

If you use your privacy settings, they can't. You can search me by name on Google or Faceache, but you won't find me because I have opted out of searches.
I also don't post anything publicly that might embarrass me later on.

It's much easier to block or ignore cyber stalkers than real life ones. I've been stalked twice in my life by men who can't take no for an answer. I've had to change my phone and even my address.
FB doesn't worry me, because I've opted out of search engines. Even if my ex did find me online, I could block him.

Facebook isn't for everyone: if you don't like it, or don't understand it, then ignore it. It's just another communication tool, like the phone.

I joined it when it was just a uni-type thing.. was good to keep in touch, since then it's gone terrible in my opinion. Still use it, daren't add the mother in law (*ahem*... photos) - and similar to Ollie - the odd language outburst is erm present

The issue I have with it (and other social networking stuff I guess) is that details of my private life can be put on by other people (generally in a malicious way) and I have no idea. I never enjoy someone else telling me about something that s/he shouldnt know about, but then tells me "Oh, XXXXX put it on Bookface."

I don't do face-ache, I keep in touch with the people I want to and if I've not kept in touch over the years there's likely a reason why!

You should rejoice that you are so interesting to other people that they feel they have to gossip about you.

I had a look at twitter when it first got popular and didn't understand it at all - most of the things I looked at were just people thinking that other people might be interested in the mundane things in their life, why anybody would feel the need to type in that they were about to go to the loo / garden / supermarket etc and that anybody else would be interested is a mystery to me

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I didn't get it at first, but when I looked into the service etc I realised that they'd pretty much have a real time search engine Google soon caught onto them mind I guess it's because of my job, but the power that they could open up to real time searches would be immense! (not sure if they have done so already, as I dont use it!)
