Currently having a career break/change of direction. Left my publishing job in Feb this year (13 years in the industry, latterly as editorial manager) to begin a horticulture job as well as try my hand at a writing career. Horticulture course is going well but have been too busy pottering in the garden to do much about the writing plans so farcome visit a garden

Hi
Well although I have a BA in Industrial design and having several years as a lead artist for a computer games developer I now find myself designing kitchens. Most of the time I like it but I really want to be an Illustrator. It's easier to grow foot long parsnips than break into that industry! lol

At the mo I work for the NHS reimbursing patients for their travel expenses (if they are on one of the qualifying benefits that is.) as well as various other financial duties. My contract is up soon though and what with this governments cutbacks I'm not sure if it will be renewed, so it could be the end of 20 years in the NHS for me!
I've only just started back full time last september after being a single Mum to 2 for the last 10 years and only being able to work part time.
I can't imagine not working as the only time I haven't has been when on maternity leave and I've never ever had to sign on so I'm praying I get kept on after September. Its nice to be important but its more important to be nice

On Mat leave and thinking that work can wait for a while maybe a lonnnnnnnnnngggggg while.
If i go back i will be decorating weddings cakes and the like for harrods, waitrose and selfridges. Sometime they let me out into the world. I like to think of it as me being on tour. Tend to be in the trafford center writing messages on fairy cakes nothing rude mind you. Do miss it when i sit and think about it :O( but then love being at home, lottie with my girl and fetching my boy home from school everyday.Growing vegetables and flowers to share.

Couldn't you branch out on your own Smallfrog ? I'm in the midst of wedding planning (shame you are not a little nearer !) and have realised from dealing with the lovely local people that will all add a little something to the day that working for yourself seems to make people a little happier, I guess it's doing something you love and getting paid for it with more control than you have being employed?
