I'm in a bit of a quandry.
Some of you will know that I've not really been happy in my job of late, and that we're currently going through a 5th round of redundancies - which will result in a total restructuring of the business and how it operates.
Unofficially I've had a chat with one of the bosses, and it would appear that my role/job function will not form part of the UK company in the future - which I expected (in a company of less than 20 people it's difficult to justify one person solely for marketing), but I have also worked for our parent company in Germany since the beginning of the year and this may be where I fit in the future, but we'll have to wait and see.
The trouble is I've lost all faith in the company, my own abilities and morale here is beyond dire (we've had people pleading for voluntary redundancy).
This lunch time I met with a director of an agency who is interested in taking me on. He sees it as necessary to take his business forward, and has already proposed both the position, and my filling the position to two of the other directors who are 'on-side'. He is going to propose the idea to the last remaining director, but doesn't see that he'll get a different response.
Here is my dilemma - the role will mean a lot of being away from home, spending a few nights a month away from home, lots of driving, commuting into London a couple of days a week, but also some working from home. He is adamant that I am more than capable of doing the job and that I'd be good at it, and would enjoy it - he wouldn't be talking to me about the job if he didn't I guess. His only concern is that it's very different from what I'm used to at the moment (being 15 minutes from home).
He did say that the company doesn't have the financial backing that my current employers do - but also, his company is 30 years old next year, so can't be all bad can it?
I'm being daft aren't I?
I've been here nearly 9 years now - I think I'm just too comfortable.
It sounds like a pretty good opportunity - will be hard work, but should be rewarding at the same time.
I'm just sounding off - can you tell?
Thank you for putting up with this rambling.
