I was working with a guy one time strimming around the town. We were in all the proper kit, full mesh masks, ear muffs the works. We finished for tea break, my opo took his mask of, lit a ciggy, looked down said "wots dat?" in his normal silly manner, bent over to see what it was and a BRAMBLE branch that none of us had seen whipped up from being cought on his trousers and smacked him in the eye.................He was a VERY lucky man, believe me! He got missed by the barbs on it and "only" ended up with a dent on his eye.

Nasty! I grow the tall stuff too, so no short sticks. Even I (well over the average girl height) would have a job stabbing me eyes with those!

My sister has some shorter canes which I made her put yoghurt pots on. Nearly had me own eye out there.

Thanks for the reminder- every year I intend to puty something over my canes- and then for some daft reason just forget

Hope it's feeling a little less sore today- you're right- you could have lost your sight

              A lesson for us all.

I use the plastic water bottles that come from Lidl or Aldi. They are dark blue and are noticeable immediately.
I wouldn't dare leave any sticks untopped in my garden in case my kids or my grand kids might have an accident.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

Ouch, man that hurts and can fully sympathise.

One of my chooks decided to peck me right in the eyeball last year when I was bent over planting onion sets.
My GP found it highly amusing as did my teenage stepson's mate who had to drive me to GP cos I couldn't open my eyes. Was ok after a week or so.
