Aaah ! That was just what I was going to say ! Except that the way I heard it, it was "the blind obedience" of fools. And the reason I remember ? I was so shocked when I heard it from my father...an extremely conservative, law-abiding, bobby ! (Now retired.)
Probably because he did such a good job of instilling this attitude in me, and also my own cautious nature, I have always hated to break rules. But as time goes on I see more and more that aren't worth keeping, that often defeat an organisation's own avowed objectives, and so I break them - if I can bring myself to - just on principle.
My Golden Rule is, think first, "What harm does this do ?"
And if I am thinking of breaking it,"Who will enforce this ?" In the UK, often no-one...
As for appearing to be above God - surely to judge your fellow man or woman as trying to do this, you are judging what is in their heart and minds - which I would say is most certainly the province of God alone as only He can know what lies there, and is thus a sin for mortals !

As someone who usually asks advice on the best way to attempt something .......

the questions is Bren, do you ALWAYS take that advice after having asked?

Or did you think about it and then do it your way anyway (usually my reaction)?

Of course I always consider other opinions but if I feel there is a flaw in the reasoning I do it my way. If it doesn't work I am not defeatist I keep on trying.
