Olive oil price set to soar amid Greek stockpile - Yorkshire Post
Apparently the Greek growers consider stocks of olive oil in tanks to be a safer bet than cash in a Greek bank.
And I can understand their concerns, but I use olive oil in pretty much everything these days. A spray of olive oil to lubricate the wok, spreadable spreads, etc.
I am now imagining having to go back to the good ol' days of dripping, lard and, heaven forbid - REAL BUTTER.
My gran would collect the fat from whatever she cooked in a bowl kept cool in the larder. It had a bit of water in the bottom and the bits from the cooking would drop through into the water leaving the pure fat floating on top. She would then take this off, clean it up and use it for the next bit of cooking.
I will miss my olive oil, but if prices rise too much then I am going back to Nana's old tricks.
