  • someome cheer me up please

I feel sad and grumpy today - my eldest son is 6 today and has gone off on a school trip, leaving at half 8 this morning and not getting back til gone 5 tonight. It is his first birthday without me seeing him all day and I HATE it

I have asked that they sing happy birthday on the bus which he will love but it's just not the same. I coudn't go on the trip too as have younger child and no childcare today.

Feel free to give me a slap and tell me to GET OVER IT!
I am going to get my revenge on some weeds, then I can call this a gardening post

    #SLAAAP# Get over it.
    There,. done.

I know when they are little every birthday is important to you, and I think, if I know you, you will have some special tea planned for later on.

For him though, it is probably the best birthday ever getting a school trip and spending it with all his classmates.

Want some camomile lotion for that slap mark??? Sorry, I dont think it will leave a mark

Children and heartbreak eh? If we could see into the future we would all stay single and breed pigs-- much easier!

Stop being grumpy, go and take a photo of your Marty Feldman eyes and post it on here and we can all smile with you!!

Kids eh? It doesnt get any easier Mrs, last time I was home I popped across to see the grandkids (my kids happened to be there too), driving back down to the ferry I was in tears, knowing I wouldnt see them again for ages.

On the plus side, he'll be home tonight, you can all sing happy birthday, eat cake and jelly and generally have fun.

I'm sure its affecting you more than its affecting him,he'll have a great time with his mates on his birthday. How about preparing a nice birthday tea and maybe a cake for when he gets back ?

Its my sons sports day today, which last week he told me parents were not allowed to attend,I found out yesterday we are allowed to attend.I woke my son up for school this morning and had a bit of a chat with him about it,turns out he didn't was me there because he's embarrassed of me...I pretended to be a bit upset ...I hate attending sports day and I spend quite a bit of my time thinking of ways to embarrass him (I think it helps build moral fibre )
Hope your feeling a bit better now if not...Slap and GET OVER IT!

( I really need to learn to type faster...all the above replies were not there when I started writing!...jeeze!)

            Shan't slap you....perish the thought.

It's hard to be in the background and let go, but you are a good mummy and you are bringing up happy, healthy, independent children. So there will be times when you can't be with your little ones, or big ones, on special occasions.

Tonight your little man will be home, full of the many wondrous things he's seen and done, ready for tea, bath & bed and yours will be the last face he sees before he falls asleep having told the person he loves most (you, of course) all about his day.

Also, you can take this opportunity to give your other little one some special time.

Ok, time to stop feeling sorry for yourself Janeyo! He'll be home soon and he'll have had a wonderful day, ready for a wonderful spoiling evening.

The plus side to this Janeyo is that you really do enjoy your son's company and pine for him when he is away. This is how mums should feel. It's called letting loose the apron strings and he will love you more for it.
I can just imagine his little face when you meet him tonight.

But you will be seeing him, presumably you saw him before the trip and you'll see him tonight. Be happy for him that he's having a nice day out and if he wasn't then he'd be at school anyway so still not with you all for most of that time. Most people that work full time wouldn't see their children for a longer period than that every day so it's not exactly like you're abandonning him. Will do him good being more independent and hopefully he'll enjoy telling you all about it when he gets home.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

someone told me once something about holding onto those you love with open arms.

If you try to hold onto them too tightly they will run as far and as fast as they can away from you at the first chance they get and never look back, but if you allow them the freedom to go they will always keep coming back, or something like that.

I think its true, even though it is hard for a mum to let them go. Wait til they hit their teens, trust me, under 10s are such a joy.

My daughter once went on a brownie camp and it was her 9th birthday on that weekend, she chose to go, she could have stayed home, they made a huge cake for it, we gave them some presents to give her, we were allowed to phone on the morning of her birthday and she burst into tears the phone was snatched away from her and they hung up. I was mortified that they didnt allow me to speak to her to calm her down.
She never went on another trip that fell on her birthday.
Give him some extra cuddles tonight and tell him how grown up you think he is.
                      Happy Birthday from me.
