  • Sunday fund raising - simple but perfect!

Sunday I went to the best fund raising event that I think I have ever been to.....

Some very kind Ladies and Gentlemen organised a grown up 'Mad Hatters Tea Party' to help raise money for the village.

It was brilliant, and had a really simple but great WOW factor.

It was held in a long rectangular white marquee - modern but perfect shape in shape and design.
(This was for adults only - kiddies had their own marquee)

A long beautifully decorated table ran down the middle, covered in white with a soft old fashioned kinda pink runner down the center upon which sat the most wonderfully delicate china tea cups and saucers, beautiful china cake stands and fantastic china tea pots, sugar bowls, and milk jugs! - The china was made up from many different very old services but all some how matched and looked totally perfect together. This was what gave it the huge WOW factor. China, beautiful proper china!! Every thing was kept to pastels even the many bunches of balloons were in keeping!
There were around 100-120 place setting and the whole thing just looked incredible. Like walking into a dream.

We had little sandwiches and a glorious selection of home made fancy little cakes of all types even the icing on the cup cakes was kept to pastels. The tea pots, sandwich platters (again beautiful old china) and cake stands were constantly topped up with more and more temptations!

What a simple but brilliant idea.
    SIMPLY PERFECT!

A huge thank you to all those that made a great day!

      Sounds brilliant and quintessentially "English."

Could it be that they raided local charity shops? I know my mum's shop gets lots of miss-matched crockery in and they sell it at silly money - some of it is really rather pretty.

"Shabby chic" is quite the thing, but not easy to pull off.

Sounds like a really nice day.

oh but HW it was far far from 'shabby' it was beautiful fine bone china and all looked really quite posh. I think they bought most of it is services of 6 or more! so each place setting in its own right matched.
I will try and find, then post a picture.

it was a lovely day and has left a lasting memory....funny how these simple things sometimes really hit the spot!

Bless all the Ladies (and a few Gents) of the village that do so much for us. They keep our little village alive.

ps another thing we do to raise money is to have our little church flood lit.
so- yesterday was our 14th anniversary.......
I put in a request for Church to be lit and when Mr HF and I came home to village, after a lovely meal out, you can see the church bathed in light - how lovely is that!
The Ladies that 'do' put the flood lights on for you, write out a very pretty card for you to keep and post the 'light up' details on the village notice boards and the one at the church all this for £10
and whats more - that money goes to mend the church roof - the same church we were married in 14 years ago. awwww
I know I am just daft

Thats not daft HF, thats really sweet.
I'm not a romantic bloke in any way shape or form, there are myriad who can testify to this, but I think I would well up if my laydee of the day did something like that for me.
