Have a look at Country and Language Selector : VisitEngland pop your destination in the 'search', it will bring lots of information up for you.

      can I come too?

If you decide to go to York or Harrogate then spoil yourself a little (well a lot really) and have lunch or cream tea at Bettys tea rooms.

Can highly recommend the Yorkshire Fat Rascals (a type of rock cake on steroids but gorgeous) and the vanilla slices . These are proper old-fashioned tea rooms but you pay a little more than your average tea-room but it is so worth it.

York has tonnes to do including:

the National Railway museum National Railway Museum
the Yorvik viking centre Home page
the York Dungeons York Dungeon *Official site* | The scariest day out | Up to 50% off

It's a bit further than your 1hr, nearer 2, but with the Minster and all the lovely shops (the Shambles is quaint) you could be entertained for hours so it makes it a proepr day out. It also has park and ride which (trust me makes life a lot easier ).

If you do decide to visit be sure to check that it isn't a race day - traffic would be murder.

Fingers crossed it is warm, there is already talk of river walking :O

ps did I tell you all I am not really very outdoorsie?! But with 2 boys you have to adapt!

Well we all had a lovely time, although mad hectic with 2 adults and 4 children. The weather was kind with one sunny day and the rest cloudy.

We went to Bolton castle, Forbidden Corner, Aysgarth Falls, Hardraw waterfall, Wensleydale Creamerie, A rope factory, a chocolate factory, a pottery factory, another waterall I forget the name of. And lots of pretty villages like Hawes.
And did loads of crossing streams and climbing rocky hills.

              The children loved it all.

I have promised OH I will take him next time lol. We were only there for 4 full days - I like to pack it all in lol!

ps the worst bit was having all 4 children screaming hysterically in fear at once in Forbiden Corner - I think that day the wine was opened before 5pm!

Many thanks for all your other suggestions and I will remember them for next time
