Tea tastes awful lately or is it me?

I only drink tea when we run out of coffee. We have Yorkshire tea in the house as a rule for visitors and the occasional cup for my younger daughter. Had no complaints but we must have had the current box in the cupboard for well over a year now.

Chances are if the box has been open that it'll not be at it's best by now, always a problem if you don't drink it yourselves.

Just noticed that the OP has location as the Wash area, if their water is anything like as bad as my mum's (not too far away) then it's the water not the tea, bloomin' horrible tasting and just doesn't make good tea. Bit like down London way, can use the best tea in the world but the cuppa will still be horrible - always one of the nicest things about coming home is knowing that I can have a lovely brew

Ah well, limoncello (homemade or bought) is also very good but not good for waking me up in the morning

I've not tried it as a wake-up drink. Not likely to either - it's all gone!

Looks like I'll stick with Coffee, and we'll have to agree to disagree!

I live by the wash and I will agree the water is BLOOMIN HORRIBLE!!!! I have to filter it and then it tastes bearable but still horrid. We sometimes have to buy water if it is particularly awful.

Where abouts near the wash are you minskey??

Tea rules. As for the 'dust' in the tea bags, I assume it's just really finely ground tea leaves. The smaller the pieces, the more surface area you have and thus the faster the brew. If the box is open for a long time, they do go stale as it were.
Try storing them in an airtight box/jar.

I personally get double strength tea bags for a really strong cuppa. If my shift partner at work is having a cuppa, he likes it really weak, so I fish his tea bag out and put it in mine for a double dose lol.

We have a special tap plumbed in for my kettle. The water round here is GROSS. And crunchy.

Yup, tea is the tiurst quencher, made properly, strong enough to stand a spoon in it, in a pint mug if possible, but good coffe is also as good, very strong, very sweet, almost like a dessert.
Either one in it's proper place is fab, but if your water doesn't respond to filtering [as already mentioned], the it's bottled water or percolated coffe

I can drink tea ('builder's tea' for preference) or coffee, as long as it is strong enough. Over-strong needs extra sugar.
Some of the more delicate teas are OK in hot weather (but NEVER with milk!!, Earl Grey with milk YEUCH!!!)
Wouldn't do if we all liked the same things, there would soon be a shortage!

My WORST cup of tea was in Crete about 30 years ago.
We'd walked the St Maria gorge in seering heat- and staggered into the cafe/bar at the bottom of it.

The couple I overheard in the supermarket the other day were having a dilemma over their tea also. She: I see the gold label brand is on offer shall I get some more? He: Nah, I didn't like it, it was too hot. Strangely enough it almost sounded right!

Tea bags and loose tea is stored in a screwtop jar, never hangs around long as we drink loads of tea.

I'll have to get a water filter fitted & see.

I love the aroma of coffee, we have a Tassimo machine which makes coffe I like, drink more than onethough and I have to sit on my hands in a corner as I get hyper & waffle on a bit like I'm doing now
