I have solved my lawn problem!

I'm getting rid of most of it

Spoken to the children about it as the main reason we have a lawn is for them and they're quite happy to forgo the lawn for bark under their swing set, the trampoline half buried into the ground and a fence with climbers on around (and the dug out soild I can use in my raised beds!), paths going around the garden for them to chase each other, a natural den and a train track (though hubby wanted one anyway)!

I'm going to keep a small bit of lawn though, probably about 6' square ish, just enough to put out a blanket for when the baby is here and we want to go outside, or for picnics etc. Things like the paddling pool can go on the patio area when that's done.

Just need the heavy work mob now!

What's going where the lawn is now?

I am thinking of digging up most of my lawn to grow veggies instead. The lawn is just a nuisance as it isn't level thanks to the kids riding bikes round it and it is mostly grotty grass and pretty dandelions and daisies. I think veggies would be a better idea for a large part of it - save on the mowing too! Just got to work out the best way to plan it all out now.

Our lawn is such a mess I'd gladly get rid but with a rabbit, two guinea pigs and a small person, some of it is needed. The only decent looking bit is at the top but that is very mossy and sloped so is likely to become a "rockery". Lots of med type plants as it gets very dry in the summer and is ostensibly (oooohhhhh!) south-facing. This is not a prob as I have lots of lavender plants. Now there's a surprise.

A good all round cure all for a poor lawn is six of gravel, four of sand, two of cement, or in laymans terms, concrete!!!

Well my other half suggested tarmac

Where the lawn is now will be the swing set, trampoline, den, small patch of lawn, path and flowers. Under where the swings are is just mud at the moment and the same under the trampoline as the dog seems to think that under there is the best place to skid to stops!
