  • another new pet!!!!

Yup- we have another new pet ( apart from the peacock which looks like he's intending to stay)

    This one's pretty unusual- it's a cricket!

Hmm...we bought a huge bunch of sunflowers from the market on Saturday- and ever since we've had a cricket chirping away in the lounge..we've hunted high and low and still can't find it

    .....what's your most unusual 'pet'????

Well- not techically a 'new' one- cos I never had an 'old' one- but it's merrily chattering away in the lounge

I've moved all the log pile- and still can't find it- seems to be pretty well hidden

...didn't the Chinese have then as good luck symbols or something- kept in little containers???

It must have been sitting in a fieldof sunflowers- minding it's own business ( must be male)...found itself at market still perched merrily on a flower - and the next thing it's in our lounge- listening to the tele!!!!

well- I do get a bit confused re grasshoppers, crickets and locust.
I'm sure we had a stray locust last year- it was 3" long and in 2 days mucnched it's way through about 60 climbing french beans- whole plants!!!!
I was going to take a piccie- but the darn thing had done a runner!

This thing is about 1" long, beige and quite rounded., large head.

It's not sat still long enough for me to see if it's rubbing it's wings or legs- but I'm pretty sure that's a cricket????

If it sings at night, it's a cricket. If it sings during the day, it's a grasshopper and I didn't know that before you started this thread.

I used to breed crickets (I kid you not) We used to have gecko's and we fed them crickets. The lady who used to do my ironing found many a cricket in my laundry basket - scared her half to death
