Had to do the same to our 14yo golden retriever, horrible really - but best wishes all the same.

It's really sad when you have to let them go but it's the kindest thing to do. So sorry for you losing Sam.xx

            How are you doing sweetie?
Can you go and buy a plant/tree in his honour?

Actually I recall going to buy a japanese maple before I had my old cat put down.
I went to a tree nursery and was trying to explain what I was looking for - and why- but could hardly catch my breath through the sobs.
The peeps there so so sweet with me- offering me a seat and a glass of water.
I hadn't even had him put to sleep at that point- I just knew that I wanted to give him a lovely burial asap whan we got home with him.

In fact the first thing we had to do was wait for my OH to change his trousers cos Bod's bladder must have been full and on the way home he weed all over my OH's trousers( we chuckle about it now- but were so upset at the time)

              Hope you're OK xx

Run Free at the Rainbow Bridge...

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

We know that dogs have a shorter life than us, about 14 or 15 years, but it doesn't make it any easier when they get there

we have a wire haired pointer at the moment, very lively, he's about 18 months, and fortunately that's sufficiently far away not to have to think about it. But we had a Jack Russell Terrier when I was a boy, and that was very sad when he was put down

Our vet says that about 90% of owners cry when their cat or dog is put down, so don't feel ashamed

                    Best wishes geoff

((((BIG HUGS)))) from me too. We had to make the same decision last November. It is the right thing to do, however distressing it may be. Thinking of you.

Big hugs from me also, I had to make that decision nearly 6 years ago with my much loved companion! It is one of the hardest decisions I have had to make but the right one for her. Take care, big hugs xxxxx

Thankyou all so much for your kind words. Sorry I haven't been able to get on sooner but just felt really numb. Coming home from the vets without Sam and seeing his bed and bowls still standing there, I have to admit I sobbed like a baby and so did my daughters. It was all in all one of the hardest things I have had to do in a long time but the only consolation for me was that it was so quick and peaceful and the vet was brilliant. He had clearly given up and just lay there at the vets waiting to be put out of his misery.
We are going to have his ashes returned in 10 days and we have decided to plant the ashes by some apple trees. Sam always used to go mad for apples and would whine and whine if he saw us eating one until we gave him some.

I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom

So sorry to hear this SR. Have had to do this twice before with our companions aged 15 and 17, so know how you feel. It takes time.
