Plant a moveable screen (containers) in front of clippy hedge, or something that dies down in the winter. So many options!

containers are surely lots of work if there is no rain? already have 2 GH's to water so dont think i want even more.

so i am thinking (until i get the book and change my mind!) that i should put a wee gravel path right beside the wall (so i can clip the beech hedge) and paint the wall (dark green?)

then dig everythin up and move the 'easy' stuff forwards a bit (removing some lawn inthe process) - so how about if i planted berries? wouldnt they look pretty? and lots of bulbs (maybe even the lillies planted back again) and daffs etc, etc

        thoughts?

I personally would plant fruit bushes infront of it with flowers around it. I have lilies and I would split them (depending on how big the clump is) and plant it along. I dont do anything with mine except split them once a year to fill the bed and leave them to it. They die back every year and come back every spring. I would also plant daffs as I think its lovely to add that bit of colour earlier on in the year when everything else is still dormant. Painting the wall a nice colour sounds lovely aswell.

PS you have a lovely garden
