Friday The 13TH...Today!!!!!

I never walk under ladders or scaffolding, I remember I was walking down the street on my way to catch the train and this bloke with a ladder on this shop and he pulled the ladder back for me to go past but I just walked round him and said "Just in case" . Also yesterday I ran out of petrol but I guess it was my own fault coz I let the fuel gauge go right down to empty. I did that so I could save 2p on fuel

Oh yeah just remembered I put me knickers on inside out the other day so I changed em round hoping it would change me luck and did the lottery, I got one yes one number.

I once got crapped on by a bird on my head/hair - as I was on my way in to work!

I went into the bathroom at work and washed it out in the sink. When I got in to the office and told people why my hair was wet, everyone said I should do the Lottery that night (as being crapped on by a bird is meant to be lucky in some way). I did do the Lottery (I'd already done it on the way in, bird crap and all). But did I win? Nah. Well, maybe tonight.

Here, a black cat is meant to be good luck.

I got crapped on the head by a bird once, too. My colleague nearly wet himself laughing. Everyone told me it was lucky, and that weekend I won a tenner on the lottery, and sold a trailer on eBay for four hundred quid more than I expected to get!

My luck, since then, has made up for it though!

I've never even heard of some of these ones eg saluting a magpie - what's all that about? Don't really get any of them although I do tend to avoid walking under ladders after seeing somebody have paint dripped on them once but that's logical not a superstition. Once got a very cheap last minute flight on Friday 13th as apparently a load of people won't fly then - excellent, if I get get advantages of somebody else's paranoia then great news, long may it continue

Firmly believe we make our own luck, if somebody thinks they've done something to give bad luck they will focus on the bad things but if they were equally convinced that it was a good luck thing then they'd focus on the good bits. A woman I worked with was convinced she'd had a really bad year cos of something she'd done (can't remember what now) and blamed her lack of promotion, bad weather etc on this. She was marring her own life instead of concentrating on the fact that she had got married to a man she loved and was pregnant with a much wanted first child, there really is no helping some people if you take things to extreme.

I think they have probably been passed down to me by my dear late mother, who was also very superstitious. They don't have anything to do with luck.

If you have any belief in superstitions, you don't pick up an glove dropped by someone else. Why? well it was once a challenge, and picking up the glove was accepting the challenge (hence the phrase 'picking up the gauntlet', meaning - more or less - accepting a dare to complete what the other person started).
