i totally sympathise, and am in the same boat. make a list of everything you have ever thought about doing ( if you had had the time!), and havent had time for, and all of the boring jobs you have put off, and then see which of those you can do. i can now type laying down, sew laying down, and write laying down flat on my back. keep your mind active with all of the great suggestions already given. get a jigsaw puzzle going, and keep at it in odd moments. 8 weeks isnt that long, once you get into it.

I spend most of my time laid up,its not much fun...I suggest a DS with puzzle games I recommend around the world in 80 days (slightly addictive and passes the time),also box sets of tv programmes..(ones with lots of series)The Sopranos,The Wire Friends etc
Your laptop for sites such as this (just make sure you cant get to your credit card because it's amazing what seems like a good purchase when your bored!)...although I do like hunting out freebies and if you like reading send someone to the library to get a bumper bundle of books.
Those are things for making the time pass a little quicker as for productive ideas...um...

Cheers Peeps. Firstly, I will NOT be buying a Wii or DS or any of those kind of things, but thanks anyway! I can waste enough time on the Vine and eBay, as it is. The only reason Himself doesn't moan about the length of time I spend on here, is because it's cheaper than eBay! I don't need access to my card, I have PayPal!Last edited by Glutton4...; 14-08-2010, 11:17 AM.All the best - Glutton 4 Punishment

Hope it all goes well for you, we will be thinking about you!
My main worry would be putting loads of weight on with well meaning visitors bringing gifts and not being mobile enough to keep it off.
I like to do jigsaws and word searches. Also buy some magazines with puzzles in then at least you might stand a chance of winning - like Take a Break for example.
And of course you will soon be getting loads of SEED CATALOGUES through the post - lovely to browse and list-make

When I was laid up for 3 months or so, I used to write long letters (pre-internet) when I had the energy and wasn't zapped out on valium. Now, I would spend it doing some painting/drawing, or finish off my family treeAll gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.

I may suggest doing internet competitions, there are loads of sites (one I use is called loquax - hoping that doesn't break the rules) which list competitions, you never know you may win something useful (like that kitchen I won last year...). It easily passes an hour or so.The cats' valet.

OMG dear one. I had no idea you were under the weather and it was going to get real stormy before the sun shines. You are always a ray of sunshine to me and make me laugh.
In some ways you are lucky to have been forced to get off the daily grind and are being given the opportunity to reassess. To find other strength and skills you never had time for. Wish you all the best. (cannot find an emoticon that befits)Last edited by Brengirl; 14-08-2010, 05:41 PM.

Sorry you're going to be laid up G4 hope everything goes well for you (& best wishes to the others who've mentioned they're in the same boat). It will probably be frustrating being in the house & not being able to do anything very active so I'd just try & pamper yourself, do some reading, plan your growing for next year, catch up on DVDs etc. & I like Two Sheds's suggestion of researching your family tree, I've started doing my late mum's family & it's quite involving & addictive, as well as being difficult in my case as nearly everyone is dead & they never used to tell us about family matters (seem to be lots of skeletons in cupboards!) The OU course idea is great too, maybe you could do something gardening or art related?Into every life a little rain must fall.

hello g4, my favourite way to waste the day is chess, don't laugh,, been playing for 20 or so years, still not that good at it, play online now, play and talk to people from all over the world, try it, once you start playing its so addictive. good luck.

Hi G4, sorry to hear you're going to be laid up.Hope everything goes well for you.The family tree idea sounds a really good one, I love to have the time to do that .You'll have lots of garden planning time and seed catalogue browsing time. What about one of those garden design programmes, you could pretend you have the cash to start all over again from scratch and design the garden of your dreams!Gardening forever- housework whenever

Since you've given in and joined Facebook, you could probably find challenges/puzzles on there. I know there is Scrabble (I'm hopeless) and probably chess as well (never seen it, but suspect it must be there), against real opponents, and there may be other 'one-on-one' games that could be played that way.Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

Well- I do a lot of research into my family tree.
I could give you some pointers if you're interested in that?( your tree - not mine!!!)
Tis a time filler with a result at the end. Can't stand wasting time ...so I love to multitask!"Nicos, Queen of Gooooogle" and... GYO's own Miss Marple
