We got this from Bob Sherman at work today; he won't me posting it on here....
There is a major news story running at the moment, overshadowed by major natural disasters elsewhere, relating to the potential loss of one of the world's greatest genetic collections in Russia at Pavlovsk. The Russian Ministry of Economic Development have granted permission for the development of 10Ha of housing on this land, requiring the destruction of thousands of mostly unique living accessions of fruit. Garden Organic has added its voice to the institutes in UK (and throughout Europe) calling for this to be stopped. You will find information posted on our website forum about this.
There is an international on-line petition created by a major figure in the world of genetic resources, Cary Fowler. The link is:
Global Crop Diversity Trust |Take Action | Change.org
If you wish to sign this, and feel that it is worth signing, then please go ahead.
If you don't wish to sign it, don't bother coming on and saying it's a waste of time etc.....as I'm closing the thread anyway....just don't sign it.
Simples.
