Why did *I* say sorry?

This morning, I was walking on the pavement in Hitchin town centre when a young lady (poss late 20s) came cycling along (the pavement!!) towards me - she wobbled and swerved, as did I as I was unsure as to which way she was going.

Get this - I said sorry to her - what a plonker!!

Push her off the baddy thing next time! (Yes, look away TS! ) I have to say, I know it's wrong, but I would never tell kids off for cycling on the pavement - it ain't safe on the bladdy roads these days!

I always cycle on the path! It was while I was cycling on the path one day that I spied a young lady on a bike coming towards me on the road. She had fluerecent gear on and flashing lights............but the car still hit her, knocked her off her bike and broke her leg!

Sorry Piskie, but I'd rather ride on the path, take the wrath of pedestrians and be alive as travel on the road and be dead!

Snadge hun - it wasn't sooo much that herself was on the pavement, it was more that she scowled at me for 'getting in her way' when, as I believe it, I have the right of way not herself

It's human nature for some of us. An woman ran into my foot quite hard with her shopping trolley in Waitrose a while ago. I apologised (mad, I know), whilst she tutted and muttered something about "Oh, don't mind me, I AM old you know." She was quite unpleasant and left me standing there, a bit shocked, a bit angry, and wishing I wasn't hard-wired to be polite. Sometimes, I wish I could be a little less...well...polite!

Cyclists shouldn't be using footpaths, agreed.
I get scowled & shouted at by peds & dogwalkers bimbling along on the cycle lanes.

It's a reflex response. Most people would (i hope...) automatically apologise if bumped into, whoever's fault it was. Though i agree, it does irritate me when it wasn't your fault, you say sorry, and the other person doesn't also apologise.

I was at Pizza Express last weekend waiting at the door to be seated and opened the door for a woman who was with a young child, baby in pram, and husband/boyfriend/male friend. The man and child walked out without even acknowledging that i was holding open the door for them (the child can be forgiven, i suppose!), but what most annoyed me was the woman who pushed the pram half through the doorway before deciding to crouch down to reorganise the storage compartment of the pram, all the while with me holding the door open! Again, no acknowledgment. I was so p***** off that i said, with a raised voiced, 'you're very welcome!', when she finally managed to exit the door fully.

Walking through Oxford yesterday, ped only street I was screamed at by a cyclist as I WAS IN HER WAY ! ?

I am very careful of cyclists when driving as I live in Oxford, was one myself, learnt to drive here etc

I was so shocked I forgot to push her off her bl***y bike !
