Has anyone tried it?

My OH loves coffee and I thought it would make a great pressie for his birthday. He is REALLY hard to buy for so I try to find something unusual... and it doesn't come more unusual that this one!

ps, if you are not familiar with it, it's coffee that has been through the digestive system of some animal in far off lands and then the dung handpicked by some locals to get the beans out, then roasted then sold as the most expesive coffee in the world. (And you couldn't make that up!!)

I'd rather have the Civet that carped the beans out. It looks very cute, sort of like a Lima / raccoon. Wouldnt mind trip to those parts of the world either, I'd still skip the coffee though - can't imagine how being passed through a digestive system will make it tasty.

Let us know, I'm kinda intrigued to know if it is different or just a massive marketing scam for extremely expensive coffee for people who have more money than sense imo (not including you of course, just those that drink as any everyday cuppa)

I've tried the coffee in the Philippines where they produce the stuff and I've even seen the beans in civet droppings in the wild.
It is a very smooth coffee with a light, mild flavour - IMHO nothing special considering the hideously expensive price. As a novelty at a dinner party it is an interesting talking point but if you want a nice full round flavoured coffee go for a Vietnamese arabica (best served strong and dark with condensed milk).
Alternatively you could buy him some socks.

I've never tried it, but I want to, some day. I read that it costs about £50 a cup, which is even more hideously expensive than what you found out. No doubt it varies. The animal, incidentally, is the Palm Civet, a kind of wild cat.

Never tried it, not sure I'd want to at that price, but would agree with the Vietnamese Arabica, muchos tasty.

I've tried it! An ex-colleague has a Vietnamese wife and regularly brought packets into the office after he'd been to visit the in-laws. I'd recommend it, had a chocolatey hint, very rich but not overpowering. Probably nicer after dinner than in the office! We always referred to it as weasel coffee because no one could remember which animal it had been through!

My fave coffee is Lyons Vienna blend - strong and flavoured with fig! MmMmMmMm!
