correct bigmally! it is held in place with a roll of mexican paste which dries really hard so it supports the can really well, i put a hook shape at the end so the can can't fall down and secured it with a bit of royal icing.
when i make my next cake i will post pics of work in progress. thanks everyone for all your interest and lovely compliments. The glory of gardening: hands in the dirt, head in the sun, heart with nature. To nurture a garden is to feed not just on the body, but the soul.

I thought you must have had to put a piece of wire or something in the icing to hold the can up, am really impressed now that you've said it's just paste, I'd be terrified of breaking it off! It does look very impressive!Into every life a little rain must fall.
