i was in hospital in july (acute pancreatitis!) for 16 days, had lots of stuff squeezed into my veins! the one thing that made my head spin and made me high was the anti-sickness medicine! brilliant stuff, at the mo i take codeine every day, use to take our friend tramadol, at first it just made my head fuzzy then i think i got a bit resilient to the nice feelings and it just made me sick!! when i was in hospital some of the other patients were halucinating with tramadol, fluffy pigs and spiders!
oramorph was another favourite, had a similar taste to disaranno, yum yum!

I used to take, Gabapentin 3 times a day, tramadol 3 times a day, ibruprofen 3 times a day, and also paracetomols 4 times a day, and then they introduced me onto codine, which i took 4 times a day.. i have chronic back and leg pain and was introduced to all of these.
to be honest i was like a zombie all of the time, didn't know what day it was, slept for most of day and still was in constant pain, and i was starting to get depressed with it.
The only ones i take now are codine and paracetomols as and when i need them and i feel loads better now than i did when i was taking all of those mentioned above.
But i still have the chronic pain, but try and treat it in other ways now!!

i second that!!! i have had a giggle reading some of theses answers-- so nice to know that i am not the only one who rattles when they walk! ( from all of the tablets) i have lived with severe pain for about 15 years now, and especially the last 4 monthes, with the knee, which has deprived me of sleep continually, but it really is true that laughter is the best medicine; i have really enjoyed reading these replies.

and I'll third that. As most of you probably know I am now 76yrs old, but I have not yet become aged. I have several long term medical problems which are sorted. I am happy, sort of pain free, like to look good and feel good and even at times sexy. Do I have the answer?....not really apart from always let your belly be your guide.Last edited by Brengirl; 06-09-2010, 05:29 PM.

My best friends are my opioid patches! Together with a handful of other drugs they manage to cope with ME, fibromyalgia and arthritis in my lower spine and knees - well, most of the time. Without them I would not be able to walk, and the garden would be even more of a jungle! If it's a choice between doing the things I enjoy and being housebound I'll take almost anything!Last edited by annacruachan; 08-09-2010, 07:21 PM.

Pain is always the brains response to an alert that something is wrong. Surely the remedy for pain is to find the root cause. Something that the NHS has not got the finances to investigate. Ibobrufen does have side effects so does diclofenic etc. but they only mask the problem. Unfortunately, for me anyway, I have to accept that my body frame is not what it used to be and the misuse I have given it is taking it's toll. In my head I still think I can do hand stands, run upstairs and down again or go out for a jog but unfortunately it is only in my head. BUT I can still dream

Thankfully I don't even know what most of the drugs are which you're all talking about as 'touch wood' I don't need any. I do think I may have the beginnings of arthritis as my joints sometimes ache, I have a swollen knuckle & my late mum & my brother suffered/suffer with it but I am in no way in need of medication. The only things I ever take are the odd paracetamol for a headache or Beechams powders for a cold/sore throat/bad headache!
Sorry for all of you with long term problems, it must be awful to be in constant pain.Into every life a little rain must fall.
